There’s a reason 33% of Americans prefer Autumn over any other season. And I am happy to report that I am part of that 33%. What’s not to love? The summer sun gets a little less hot, the leaves start changing colors, and who can resist homemade pumpkin pie? While there are plenty of reasons to love fall, every year there are certain things that I just can’t wait to see again. That being said, here are five fall-themed things that always get me in the mood to carve a pumpkin and crunch a few leaves.

1. Pumpkin spice anything

Okay yeah, another basic girl who loves pumpkin spice lattes, but let’s be real they are actually pretty good. Although the Starbucks drink is the poster child for pumpkin spice, there are other things to love that incorporate the intoxicating flavor and smell. My personal favorites are pumpkin spice donuts, and literally any candle with a pumpkin scent.

Look at how good these look! I’m drooling.

2. Sweaters and mock necks

Over the last few autumn seasons, I have become increasingly obsessed with layering sweaters over mock necks. It’s a great way to stay warm and add a hint of personality to your everyday outfits. I haven’t been able to pull off the full turtleneck sweater yet (maybe one day… baby steps), but a mock neck under a thrifted sweater with some mom jeans and my Doc Martians is my go-to outfit when it starts getting chilly outside.

3. studying outside

There’s something exhilarating about walking outside and taking in a breath of fresh air that’s not too humid and not too frigid. Being able to just relax in nature without having to worry about swatting at bugs or getting frostbite can make anyone feel more at ease. We all know fall is typically the time when classes start up for students, and I find that studying outside when it’s nice out makes my productivity 1,000 times more effective. So find a nice tree and lay out a blanket, because those grades aren’t going to make themselves.

4. Corn mazes and pumpkin patches

Growing up in southern Ohio, it was just principle to go to a family farm and partake in the fall festivities offered there. The nostalgia that is packed into hayrides, picking the perfect pumpkin, and trying to fight your way out of a corn maze is something that screams fall to me. Plus, being the hopeless romantic that I am, I can also say that fall-themed dates like these are on the top of almost every girl’s bucket list when it comes to going out.

5. Halloween

Finally, we have the main event of fall, Halloween. My absolute favorite thing to do on October 31st is to buy a metric ton of candy and have a Halloween movie marathon with my friends and family. I was probably exposed to too many horror movies as a child, considering I find most of them hilarious instead of actually scary, but scary movies are still one of my favorite genres of film. If you’re too scared to watch horror movies I do understand though, some can be so gory that it takes away from the enjoyment of actually watching the movie. Some of my favorites right now are the Fear Street trilogy that recently came out on Netflix, the Friday the 13th series, Hocus Pocus, and classics like The Nightmare Before Christmas or It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.

Overall, fall is my favorite season for a multitude of reasons, and I’m so excited to find even more things to enjoy about it during my first year in college.
