It is still Women’s History Month isn’t it!? You know how they say, “it takes a village to raise a child”? Well these two strong, powerful, and legendary women stand as a village as one!
Forty eight year old rapper, Da Brat, is pregnant with her first child with her wife, Jessica ‘Judy’ Harris-Dupart. Jessica is the founder & chief executive officer of Kaleidoscope Hair Products. They first met sometime in 2017 in Atlanta, Georgia. These beautiful ladies tied the knot on February 22nd of last year in Georgia. Prior to their relationship, Jessica is a mother of three.
Da Brat stated to PEOPLE that having children wasn’t necessarily apart of her plan.
“I never thought I was going to have kids,” she says. “I just thought it wasn’t in the cards for me. I’ve had a great career, a full life. I felt like, because I didn’t get pregnant earlier on, then it just wasn’t going to happen for me” says Da Brat. Once Brat and Jessica got married, Brat had a change of heart.
After marriage she stated she looked at life so differently. “I was like, I want a little me with you. Something special from the both of us that we can share, raise, and love unconditionally.” Brat says to PEOPLE even still, she wasn’t too big on the idea of being the carrier for the bundle of joy. Her wife was able to talk her to it and ease her mind of everything. Jessica mentioned they “had a little tug-o-war in the beginning…but I felt like she should have the experience.”
Both women faced complications with their reproductive health. After Jessica’s egg retrieval procedure she suffered major health issues.
Before Brat’s procedure to transfer the embryo, she had to undergo surgery to remove fibroids & polyps. Then unfortunately they faced a heart crushing miscarriage. “I had never been so excited about something I didn’t even know I wanted,” Da Brat says.
They luckily had just a few more of Jessica’s eggs left to try again. They described their anonymous donor as “an eager entrepreneur” to PEOPLE. As the couples continue to let us in on our their journey, Brat stated “it’s just a blessing, I’m excited. I don’t have any cravings or nausea,” Brat continues, “but I’m always sleepy, it’s crazy.”
Rapper Da Brat is reportedly in her second trimester, pushing into her third. Brat is also shocked at her emotional differences, “everything makes me cry. If someone wins American Idol, I cry. I’m like, I’m tougher than that!”
Da brat has always portrayed she had a tough and hard persona within the hip hop world. She chose to showcase the “dichotomy with a gangster-inspired pregnancy photoshoot”.
