If you haven’t noticed, the faces of the fashion section for HerCampusBowdoin has changed. For the first time the fashion blog has a sassy co-ed duo by the names of Tasha and George. You can call us the better-looking younger versions of Stacey and Clinton from What Not to Wear. Instead of telling you “What Not to Wear”, we’re more concerned with showing you how to make fashion work for you.  Typically fashion blogs focus on what’s hot now, but this year we want to focus on what’s HOT at Bowdoin too. We’re taking inspiration from the runway and morphing it with the fashions of the Bowdoin Quad. When we think of Bowdoin fashion the typical “preppy New England kid” comes to mind, but Bowdoin extends beyond that. We’re here to shine light on all scopes of Bowdoin fashion. This blog is not biased towards certain styles, but rather critical of all. Just kidding.  For instance, let’s take a stab at our personal style or lack there of.

Tasha: Dress, Forever21, $13.50

George: Beyond the failing fashion face, Tasha does make an attempt to have some style. For one, she recognizes her body type and wears a fitted dress for her to accentuate her “lady humps”. Secondly, she is wearing a brilliant blue. Bold colors are trending this season. Since she is rocking a fitted dress, the rest of her body is covered. Only a taste ladies. *Keep that in mind when you’re looking for that perfect dress for Saturday night.

Suggestions: Since the dress is simple it’s ok to embellish the jewelry a bit. A trendy gold or feathered necklace would have gone perfectly

Moving on.

George: Avatar Jacket, Give and Go, $3.00
    Shirt $5.00 (from ASOS)
    Black Skinny Jeans, H&M, $10.00
         Chain, ASOS, $5.00

Latasha: George is rocking his very form fitted tee and skinny jeans. The two together can be a bit much. That’s why it’s important to add more dimensions to the outfit.  By incorporating the loose and tough avatar jacket, George creates the perfect balance of hard and soft. The bright blue tee adds a certain color and sparkle to the outfit that would have been lost otherwise. To put the finishing touches on the ensemble, he adds a gold-feathered chain to complement the color of the jacket.

Suggestions: Because the shirt and pants are already tight fitted, the brown belt is distracting. Next time go for a discrete black belt or ditch the belt completely to keep the illusion of a soft contrast between the two fitted items.

Keep in mind of the price tags guys. We didn’t break the bank. We took our tuna fish budget to make caviar clothes.  Just for a little inspiration here are some trending items that you might want to include in your fall wardrobe.

1. Feathered Necklace

2. Bold Color

3. Simple with a splash of sass

That’s it for this week. Look out for us on campus with cameras. You may be featured on our next blog.

Xoxo,
