Claim to fame: Winner of Fuzzy Logic – Student DJ of the Year Competition at Cameo and Co-Founder of Empire Sounds

Last Wednesday, Fuzzy Logic held a Student DJ of the Year competition. Out of the many entries, three finalists were invited to play in the main room of Cameo and of those finalists, second year Business student Jack was crowned the winner.

It was the first time Jack got to play in Cameos main room, “I was more excited than nervous” he said. The tracklist that helped Jack win consisted of Deep House, Garage and some Old School classics. It was a huge event and although the crowd was a lot different from what he is used to, Jack said “it was great to see some familiar faces”.

The prize for winning the competition was £100 in Absolute DJ vouchers, which can be spent on DJ equipment and music, as well as the opportunity to do more DJ’ing at Fuzzy Logic events.

Jack has been DJ’ing for almost 4 years now ; he started off when he was 16 “I used to play around with an old laptop I had, making mixes for friends and YouTube.” Having always liked House and Garage music, Jack says that DJ’s such as DJ EZ, Karma Kid and Tiesto have been large influences on him.

Bournemouth was first introduced to Jack’s mixing at One Love in 2013. He heard about the event through a friend and sent them a mix. After that he was offered a slot as a resident DJ which has given him some great opportunities: “I have been lucky enough to play alongside the likes of Applebottom, DE$IGNATED and Bromley.”

As well as his slot at One Love, Jack has played many times at The Old Firestation, including for varsity events, We Are Your Friends and Loop. It was at Loop that Jack closed the night after the electronic duo Bondax, playing B2B with Pat Marshall (Ninety2Step).

After university, Jack hopes to continue DJ’ing and producing. He is also Co-Founder of Youtube music channel Empire Sounds’ with Brad Anderson, which he explains is “a new music channel on YouTube promoting the best new music and artists.” Check out his channel at http://www.youtube.com/empiresoundsuk
