An Open Letter to my Mom on Mother's Day

Dear Mom,

Things have been pretty crazy now that I’ve gone off to college. It has been quite the roller coaster for both of us. Between coming to terms with my anxiety to getting my first real boyfriend, there have been tons of changes happening. And while I am growing up, I am still (and always will be) your little girl.

I totally understand your worry. I want to apologize for the times that I hid things or held things in and out of reach from you. In growing up, I have tried to take care of everything myself because I don’t want you to worry. I thought it would be easier to not tell you things—but I’ve learned now that it’s best to be transparent. I know now that you want nothing but the best for me. You want to see me do well in life. You don’t want me to get hurt.

And while this year has stressed us out, tested our strength, and nearly gave us both a heart attack at times, it has also strengthened our relationship. I hope that going into the next year, we both settle into the realization that I am growing up. Don’t worry, Mom, because I want nothing more but to make you proud of the girl you raised. I promise that I will do my best.

You will continue to worry about me, and I will continue to worry about you. But that is just how we show each other that we care. I love you, Mom, and I am so appreciative of your support through this year. I wouldn’t want anyone else.

Love,

Your Daughter
