Collegiette style-guide: how to look your best today!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Boise State chapter.

School can really take it out of you. Let’s face it: late-night study sessions and early morning classes can often result in not-so-great outfits. Sigh. Oh, and if you just had a round of midterms, you can forget about style altogether. How many of you went to class in sweats? Be honest… was it more than once a week? That’s what I thought.

But let’s face it ladies: when you look your best, you FEEL your best! Spending just a few extra minutes on your look before you rush out the door may increase your chances of getting noticed by that hottie in class… and there’s nothing like a little special attention to boost your confidence AND your mood.

So here we have it: tips to help you look your best today, no matter how little time you have on your hands!

If you have 1 minute: put on a bright lipstick.

A bright lip color can be a quick pick-me-up for any outfit and hardly takes any time at all! Make sure you swipe on some moisturizing lip balm before applying your lipstick. A classic red compliments most skin tones, or try a fuschia for a fun twist. If lipstick is not your thing, try a lip-stain like Covergirl outlast lip-stain for a lighter, equally colorful look.

If you have 5 minutes… accessorize!

As a collegiette, it is likely that your wardrobe space and budget are limited. That’s why we have accessories. Mix and match your favorite bling to spice up an old ensemble with a fresh, seasonal vibe. Add a sparkly statement necklace to your favorite sweater and slip on a cocktail ring. Switch out your everyday studs for some chandeliers or hoop earrings. Chunky, boyfriend-style watches are in right now, and add a fun and practical twist to any outfit.

If you have 10 minutes: Shave your legs.

Voila! Now you can rock that mini skirt and have no excuse to NOT show off those legs. If the weather is too cold, add some textured tights to your mini. Or, opt for some distressed jeans: they show off some skin AND keep your legs from turning into icicles! At the very least, having smooth legs may provide extra inspiration to hit the gym later. Shaved legs can make you feel sexy, confident, and polished… no no-shave-November for you, missy!

If you have 20 minutes: Paint your nails.

Hey, it’s more fun to type that paper with pretty pink nails than with boring, plain ones! Whatever works, right. Red polish always looks good, even on short nails. Add a sparkly or matte topcoat to amp up the colors you normally use. Black nail polish is not just for Halloween… it looks cool all the time and matches whatever you’re wearing. Another popular trend this fall is nude nails, a fresh and sophisticated alternative to gaudy color. To cut down on drying time, stick your wet nails into a bowl of ice water for 3 minutes.

That’s it, collegiettes! If you have just 1 minute to spare or 20, you can strut to class stylishly and confidently.
