Her Campus: What activities are you involved in on campus?Victoria Weimer: I am involved in a variety of activities on campus.  I am currently the New Member Educator for Phi Iota Chi, and in the past I held the positions of Philanthropy and Assistant New Member Educator. I am also on the exec board as Treasurer for the National Panhellenic Council. In addition to my beloved sorority and NPC, I am also involved with DASL (Developing Ambitious Student Leaders), Phi Beta Lambda, the Business Fraternity, and I also work as a Student Staff Assistant in the Center for Leadership and Engagement.

HC: I understand that you have previously traveled to Africa, what is your favorite memory from your time there?VW: I was blessed to spend the month of July 2013 at a children’s home that housed 140 kids in Kitali, Kenya. I have several favorite memories that include the few nights we spent in Nairobi, serving in different slums, and going on a safari. But honestly my favorite memory would be the time I spent tutoring a young girl named Alice. In the short time I’ve got to know Alice she stole my heart and taught me more about life than I could have taught her. She is currently my sponsor child and we write letters back and forth regularly.

HC: How has the experience changed your outlook on life?VW: These children have a hole in the ground as a bathroom, cold outdoor showers, are not fed properly, and can fit everything they own in a shoe box, but yet are willing to give you the shirt off their back to ensure your comfort and happiness.  The most eye opening, life altering experience I encountered while I was in Kenya was volunteering in the social work office every day. When you have a young girl sitting across from you telling the story of losing both parents to AIDS, being separated from her siblings, and knowing that she is HIV positive from getting sexually abused all before the age of 11, but yet is the most loving, giving, beautiful soul you have ever encountered… you can’t help but be forever changed, and feel that any problem that may seem big to you is actually minuscule.

HC: What was your favorite community service project that you participated in and why?VW: My favorite community service I have participated in at Bloomsburg would be passing out Halloween candy downtown with my sorority sisters to little kids. These children had the cutest costumes I have ever seen and were so happy to receive candy.

HC: What has been your most rewarding experience so far at Bloomsburg?VW: My most rewarding experience so far at Bloomsburg would definitely have to be joining Pixies. I have not only gained lifelong friendships, but also a sisterhood and an indescribable bond with each and every girl. In addition to the bonds formed, I have gained an ample amount of leadership experience and the opportunity to work with some great organizations through our philanthropy events.

HC: Where do you see yourself in 10 years, professionally and personally?VW: Right out of college I definitely want to participate in the World Race, which is an 11-month mission trip, which travels to 11 different countries. After that I am interested in moving to Manayunk, and getting a job in finance and eventually becoming the CFO of a company. In the future after I’m married I can see myself moving back to Lancaster to raise a family.
