As one the best shows to ever grace television screens (in my humble opinion), Gilmore Girls makes it much-anticipated debut on Netflix tomorrow. All seven seasons will be available and the internet is ablaze with excited fans who can’t wait to immerse themselves in the fictional world of Stars Hollow but, before you just dive right in, preparations must be made. Trust us, this is some serious business.

Junk food. We’re not kidding. Stock up. There’s something about watching Lorelai and Rory gouge on pizza, candy and every other type of junk food you could possibly imagine that makes you so hungry. So maybe make a trip to Giant or Walmart and grab some Mallomars and Twizzlers before you sit down.

Plus, Sookie’s incredible-looking food she just seems to whip up out of nowhere will suddenly have you longing for some braised lamb shank.

Have your laptop or phone ready to Google all the references you don’t understand.Lorelai and Rory, fueled by massive amounts of caffeine, are some of the fastest talking people we’ve ever encountered. But on top of that, they make dozens of pop culture references in just one scene. We’re not always able to keep up and usually, you can let the reference just slide by but once you actually know what they’re talking about, the jokes become much funnier. So have Google open in case you need to look up The Waltons or Macy Gray.

Drinking is acceptable.Friday night dinners in the Gilmore house were always accompanied by the drink cart and it’s only right that we honor Lorelai’s love for a martini by drinking while we watch. As you move further into Rory’s college years, we all see the wonderful (and not so wonderful) effects of alcohol and it’s really a learning experience. Either way, you’re definitely going to want your wine glass to accompany you.

Plus, there’s excellent drinking games out there that may make your viewing experience even better… as if that was even possible.

If you didn’t love the fall weather yet, you will.If you start your binge with the pilot episode of season one (which I highly recommend), you will encounter some of the prettiest fall scenery that a faux-New England can have. The Gilmore girls love their sweaters and walking through town, so when both occur in the same scene… with pretty trees… and cups of coffee… you’ll wish our Indian Summer was over. Plus, each season begins with a new school year so if you weren’t feeling so hot about Fall semester, just let bookworm Rory’s enthusiasm for private school, uniforms and required reading infect you.

Coffee. If it’s not the unusual bond between mother and daughter, the backbone of the series is Lorelai and Rory’s love and dependency on coffee. And in the spirit of true binge-watching, you’ll probably end up spending plenty of 3 AMs in Stars Hollow so coffee is a must.

Call your mom.Trust us, you’re going to call your mom after watching a few episodes of Gilmore Girls. Watching Lorelai and Rory bond over TV shows, boys and fashion will pull at your heartstrings and reliving all your own mother-daughter fights with Emily and Lorelai will have you realizing how terrible you were as a teenager. And that theme song… “where you lead, I will follow,” just excuse us while we grab some tissues.
