Things To Look Forward To After Graduation

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bloom U chapter.

If you are graduating this December or upcoming May, you are probably getting a little nervous about what comes after graduation or what to look forward to. If you are anything like me, you’ve been applying to jobs and getting your resume out there but you’ve still got a job at the local coffee shop. None of that is a bad thing but it might seem like things are a struggle after graduation. Having some exciting things to look forward to can make the job search easier to handle.

In order to keep myself excited, I’ve started a list of things that I am going to do after graduation. Obviously this isn’t my life’s goals sort of list, rather some books, movies, TV shows and museums I would like to spend my time experiencing.

Over the course of my time at college, I have had to divide my time between reading for class, researching a paper, working on group projects and a million different things. Some assigned readings that I was given, while interesting and engaging, were never fully read. So, my list starts with finishing some of the amazing books from class and ends with so much more to experience.

Sir Thomas Malory’s Le Morte Darthur tells the story of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table. This wonderful legend is filled with love triangles, stories of tragic heroes, and everything that we search for in our entertainment. This wonderful book is totally worth devoting some time to.

The Divergent series has become quite popular with the movie adaptation coming out soon. I have read the first two books by Veronica Roth and fell in love with Tris and the world that she struggles with. Divergent and Insurgent are the first two books in the trilogy and start off the story and with any book series, the conclusion is always exciting and anticipated; Allegiant is no different.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer… I can’t say that I know much about this particular show but I have been recommended to watch it from start to finish by multiple people. It has been described to me as a great show with adventure, power, love, and an awesome feminist voice.

As a child, I grew up going to museums and wandering around the city. One museum that I have been really interested in exploring is that Tenement Museum in NEw York City. This museum focuses on the immigrants that came to NYC and the East Coast. At that time, the majority of the immigrants were Irish looking for a fresh start in a new place. While this is what they encountered when they arrived, it probably wasn’t in the same ways they were expecting. The Tenement Museum displays the living conditions  and elaborates on what it was really like to live as an immigrant at that time

Recently, the series Orange Is The New Black has becomes quite popular on Netflix. After watching the entire series on Netflix in two days, I looked into how this show came about. I quickly realized that the show is loosly based off of the book under the same title by Piper Kermna. The book chronicles Piper’s year long stint in a federal correction facility and if the series is anything like the book, I am excited to dive right in.

A while back, the book The Cuckoo’s Calling came out. It first came out under the name Robert Galbraith but after some time, it was revealed to have been actually written by the beloved author J.K. Rowling. Being a huge Harry Potter fan, I am excited to see what J.K. Rowling has up her sleeve this time around.

When I am not spending time at school or work, I love to go to Washington D.C. and wander around the museums there. One museum that I have been looking forward to going to is the Newseum. This museum chronicles any form of news media whether it be on the television or in print. The Newseum also has various exhibits focusing on different aspects of news and focusing on one specific topic. This is absolutely a place that I am looking to spend an afternoon visiting.

So, while you’re waiting to hook a job interview or land that new entry-level position, you don’t just have to sit around and twiddle your thumbs! Get out there and do some of the things you’ve always wanted to – who knows when you’ll have that opportunity again!
