The Cast of Hocus Pocus: Where Are They Now?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bloom U chapter.

One of the best parts about Halloween is the revival of all our favorite classic movies. Hocus Pocus, almost 20 years old, still manages to get even college students excited and glued to our TVs on a Sunday night. But as this classic film is about as old as us, did you ever wonder what happened to our favorite witches?

The Sanderson Sisters

Winifred Sanderson, the brains behind the sisters’ search for children’s soul to steal, is really Bette Midler, the multi-talented Grammy, Golden Globe, and Academy Award nominee. Now we know why her rendition of “I’ll Put a Spell on You” was so awesome! Most recently, Midler performed on Broadway for the first time in more than 30 years in a play titled I’ll Eat You Last: A Chat With Sue Menger.

The middle sister, Mary, is portrayed by Kathy Najimy who is also known for her roles in Sister Act and Rat Race. She most recently appeared in the final season of the hit Showtime drama, The Big C. The youngest Sanderson sister is perhaps the most famous. Also known as Carrie Bradshaw, Sarah Jessica Parker brought beauty to the Sanderson witches. While Sex and the City will always exist in its reruns, Parker’s latest roles have included a Vogue editor on Glee.

Max and Dani Dennison

After immortalizing himself as Max Dennison in Halloween history, Omri Katz had a role in the orginial Dallas before retiring as an actor in 2006. Thora Birch, the adorable Dani Dennison had her true breakthrough role six years after Hocus Pocus with the Academy Award winning film, American Beauty. She later played the lead role in Ghost World for which she received a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actress.

Allison

Was it possible to watch this movie and not have a huge crush on Max’s crush Allison? 20 years later and Vinessa Shaw is still beyond gorgeous! Most recently, Vinessa has been seen in the 2007 remake of the classic Western film 3:10 to Yuma with Russell Crowe and Christian Bale, the indie drama film Garden Party, as well as a leading role in Two Lovers in 2008 alongside Joaquin Phoenix and Gwyneth Paltrow. In 2013, Shaw had a role in the thriller Side Effects with Jude Law, Rooney Mara, Catherine Zeta Jones, and Channing Tatum.

Thackery Binx

While the voice of Binx the cat was provided by Jason Marsden, a notable voice actor, the young, human version of Thackery Binx is none other than Sean Murray, though most of you will know him as Timothy McGee on NCIS! (Fun fact: Murray is the stepbrother of Troian Bellisario, aka Spencer from Pretty Little Liars.)

Kathryn is a loquacious and driven senior at Bloomsburg University studying English. Journalism has been her focus for almost eight years and she's slightly excited but mostly petrified of exploring her career options in a few short months. She can be found roaming the halls of Bakeless, yelling into the abyss in BU's student newspaper The Voice's office or making pancakes for her roommates.Check out her personal blog and her study abroad blog.
