It’s crazy how many places go unnoticed or unused by most students during their career at Bloomsburg University. There is absolutely no reason to think to yourself about how bored you are because you are at BU! I mean – we pay for it all out of our tuition anyway, might as well take the opportunity to explore our beautiful campus. To start you off, here are five places you should explore before you graduate from Bloomsburg University.

The Game Room – This is by far the most underrated place to hang out by students. The game room in the Kehr Union has everything to keep you entertained from computers, pool tables, ping pong, and even an XBox 360 with Kinect. Did I mention it is all free to students? Bring a couple of friends along and create some college memories on your down time between classes.

The Quad – That giant patch of grass you walk around every day for classes turns into a girls dream getaway during the summer. When the grass grows back after winter and the sun warms your skin, why not get sun kissed while studying with a couple of friends? Throw around a frisbee or volley ball while you’re at it. It doesn’t stop during the winter, either. Take your snow day to not only catch up on some E! Online but build a snowman or make a snow angel out there. You’ll find some other students who just want to do the same.

The Career Center – Most of us want to pretend the college is all fun and games, but as you near the end of your college career, you’re going to (hopefully) start to buckle down and think about the rest of your life. The Career Center in the Student Services Center is the best place to start doing that with your resume and cover letter. Make an appointment to have your resume and cover letter reviewed by peers and professionals, take writing workshops, or even set up a mock interview. Don’t underestimate the power of preparation. It can take the weight of the real world off of your shoulders and ensure confidence when you graduate.

The Kehr Hideaway – The hideaway is a comfy little corner, properly named, hidden away in the Kehr Union. There are a few dozen bean bag chairs and a projector with screen for movie screenings. The best part is that the movies played are screened most times before they come out on DVD. Dates for planned movies can be found posted near most entrances of Kehr and on the bloomu.edu website.

The Library – I know this seems like an obvious answer, but you would be surprised how many people never use the library. Whether you need a little distraction-free quiet time to get some work done or if you need help with – well anything – the library services are there for you and, again, out of your tuition. There are librarians and students working that have been trained in different areas to help you find the sources you need, help you with your computer, lend you a computer, and so much more. On top of this, to sweeten the deal, the university uses money from your tuition and gives you free printing money each semester; don’t use up your $60 ink for something you’ve already paid for! Even if you live off campus, making trips to the library is definitely worth it.

So, open your eyes! Overlooking these things comes so easy to a busy college student, I know from personal experience. But now you have the advice I wish I would have had my freshman year here, so go for it! Make some memories, and don’t be afraid to prepare yourself for the real world; BU makes it possible.
