Unfortunately for us, most guys have a history of not ‘getting’ trends. How many times has a guy friend laughed at a great purchase you have just made, or asked why you are wearing chain mail when you put on your new statement necklace? When it comes to what looks good, most guys just don’t seem to agree with us.
The inner feminist inside all of us knows that as women, we should wear whatever we want. Dressing for a man is the most outrageous suggestion, however I’m sure the majority of us sometimes factor in what guys will think when choosing an outfit.
I spoke to a bunch of guys to find out what goes through their heads when we sport the latest trends.
Oversized scarfs
We’ve all gone mad for the massive tartan scarves that are around this season: so cosy and look great.
‘They just look silly, like they are swallowing your head’
Platform Heels
Whether you want to be taller or just love the way your legs look in them, a pair of sky-high platforms are a must.
‘They just look like you’re on stilts’
Crop tops
Perfect for summer and although far from perfect for winter, we shall wear them anyway because they look great.
‘Not keen on these bra tops really, looks like you should be on a beach’
‘Sometimes you’ll think, I can’t believe she’s decided to come out in just that’
Creepers
No longer just for the ultra alternative sort, these have made their way into topshop and come in every colour under the sun. Practical and cool!
‘Me and lots of my friends really dislike those flat shoes that are raised, they look like monks should wear them’
‘Not feminine in any way’
Nose piercings
Reserved for the more edgy amongst us, can look so cool and unique on the right person.
‘I have an overriding hatred of nose piercings, there is a reason bulls have them’
High tops
Comfy and perfect teamed with skinny jeans for looking stylish around campus.
‘Girls often wear them with very tight trousers so they look like they have giant feet’
So, this hasn’t offended us in the slightest and we are only going wear these things more often to annoy them. When the guys were asked what they particularly like on a girl, they came up with these random things:
‘Peter pan collars’ (oddly specific)
‘Most dresses, prefer tight but maxi’s and cocktail dresses are nice’
‘High waisted jeans with a cool shirt’
‘A sexy brown jacket’
‘Anything but leggings if you’re fat’
‘I don’t really know, don’t take much from what girls are wearing, fashion doesn’t bother me really’
