How to Beat the Campus Plague!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Binghamton chapter.

It’s officially that time of year where literally everyone you know is sick, getting over being sick, or on the brink of people sick. Contracting the plague while you’re at school is the absolute worse and you can no longer spend your sick days in bed, watching re-runs of your favorite TV shows with your mom bringing you chicken noodle soup. Be sure to follow these tips to make sure you stay your healthy and happy self!

  1. Take Some You Time

We’ve been told since the beginning of time that our stress makes us more likely to get sick. Juggling everything that comes along with college including classes, midterms, extracurricular, social time, etc. could be very draining and too much can make you sick! Remember to take good dose of me time, whether that means watching your favorite show on Netflix, doing some Yoga, or listening to the “Chill Acoustic” playlist on Spotify.

  1. You Are What You Eat

While at school, it’s so easy to frequently be indulging in Night Owl, endless fried food, and ice cream. While this is tempting to do so and not a bad thing every once in a while, one of the best ways to prevent getting sick is eating food with plentiful vitamins and minerals that make you feel good!!

  1. Get Your Excercise On!

It could be difficult to motivate yourself to walk over to the East Gym when it gets chillier, especially with all this rainy and gloomy weather we have been having! It’s definitely worth the struggle though as if you are exercising regularly, it will boost your immune system! Even if you don’t feel like making your way to the gym, there’s no shame in youtubing a Zumba video!

  1. Soak Up the Fresh Air

Now that Binghamton’s weather is officially turning away from sunny and breezy days to colder and rainier days, it’s important to soak in the fresh air while you are able to! Once it gets colder, it could be easy to just shut ourselves in our dorm rooms all day. But try taking a longer way to class, walking through the nature preserve if weather permitting, or just sit outside for a bit.

  1. Sharing is Not Always Caring!

It could be tempting to share a bag of Chips and Guac with your roommate or borrow your friend’s perfect lip color (which you probably shouldn’t be doing anyway), but these are super simple things that could end up making you feel very sick! Even if someone isn’t sick at the moment, you don’t know what germs a person has floating around and its best to just stay on the safe side, especially during peak sickness season!
