5 Ways to Treat Yourself

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Binghamton chapter.

With things like classes, tests, jobs, clubs and internships keeping you busy throughout your day it’s easy to forget to take a little “me time.” It’s so important to treat yourself once in a while that I hope at least one of these things can fit into even the busiest college schedule.

1. Do a Face Mask

Face masks are a great way to de-stress and give your skin a little extra TLC. You can find tons of face masks in the beauty section of stores like Target and Walmart. There are several different kinds of face masks too that you can get from sheets to creams. As someone with sensitive, acne-prone skin I do want to stress that it’s really important you find the right face mask for your skin type. You don’t want to cause a break out or irritate your skin when you’re trying to treat yourself! This website tells you how to figure out what skin type you have if you are not sure. Once you know, do a little research and see what type of face mask will work best for you!

2. Paint Your Nails

While you’re in the beauty section of Target or Walmart looking for face masks, pick up some nail polish! If you want to paint your nails according to the season, InStyle has a great article on the what colors to paint your nails for Winter 2019! Once you’ve decided what color to get, don’t forget to grab a bottle of top coat if you want your painted nails to last a little longer.

3. Go Out to Dinner with Your Friends

What’s a better way to de-stress and treat yourself then hanging out with friends and eating food? Especially food that you didn’t have to cook or grab from the dining hall! There are a bunch of places nearby campus that you can go to like CopperTop, Tully’s, Nirchi’s, Man Nam, Los Tapatios, Texas Roadhouse and TGI Friday’s. And if you want to treat yourself a little bit more, order dessert! The pumpkin cheesecake from CopperTop is delicious!

4. Have a Movie Night

Get some microwaveable popcorn and look for a great movie to watch!

A few I recommend are:

Hulu: Ever After, The Birdcage, Bend it Like Beckham and Amelie.

Netflix: Stardust, Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, National Treasure, Dr. Strange, Ella Enchanted and Penelope.

5. Allow Yourself to Buy Something You’ve Been Looking at for a While.

It could be a book, a movie you’ve wanted to see, make-up, a cute shirt, a pair of shoes, etc. If you’ve been eyeing it for a good amount of time, consider getting it. If it’s something that’s going to mess up your bank account maybe look into a cheaper alternative but there is nothing wrong with getting yourself a little something to enjoy after how hard you have been working!
