Letterboxd

This app is essentially a diary where you keep track of the movies you’ve seen. After every movie I watch, I open up letterboxd to rate it and write a review. It then shows up in your diary alongside the date you watched it. You can also create a watchlist and add movies that you want to watch to come back to when trying to pick a movie with friends. There are other list options that you can customize. For example, this year I have started a ranked list of all of the movies I watch this year. My favorite part about this app is that you can follow your friends and see when they watch/ review a movie. One time, I opened the app to review a movie I had watched to find out that my friend from home had just watched the same movie. It’s very fun to see your friends’ watches to observe or to draw inspiration from!

Goodreads

Very similar to letterboxd, this is an app where you can review books. You can create a “want to read” list as well as observe your friends activity. This app is very helpful to me when picking what book to read because when you search for a book, an informative summary pops up as well as its rating based on how many goodreads users have read it. You can also track your progress by entering how many pages you have read of a given book and they tell you what percent of the way done you are.

Find My Friends

I recognize that the enjoyment of this app will be found only by a very niche audience– one that finds entertainment in knowing their friends whereabouts. Why bother downloading Life360 when this beautiful app comes pre-downloaded on all Apple products? It’s so fun to see what my friends at different colleges do and where they are. It’s also incredibly convenient to just be able to see where friends are instead of wasting a call or text if they are busy. Of course, there are also safety benefits in having someone know where you are. If I ever got kidnapped, about 10 of my friends would have my location and since they’re like me and enjoy checking where I am, someone would notice that I am not where I’m supposed to be.

MNR Train Time

I’m from New York so I’m not sure if apps like this exist for other cities, but if they don’t they should. The Metro North website is so difficult to navigate for no reason. This app allows me to check the train times going from the stations nearby to any other station that that specific train could take you to. It’s much more user friendly than their website which is why I find it so useful and convenient.

Geometry Dash

This game is iconic but most people have forgotten about it. It is so. much. fun. When I’m bored with no wifi, I will play geometry dash and it keeps me occupied for hours. The music is so intriguing and it is so satisfying to complete a level. My personal favorite is level 3 which I play all the time. I strongly recommend that everyone re-download this game because it is awesome.
