How to Decorate Your (Small) Dorm for Christmas

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bentley chapter.

In Your Room

1. Garland over the window

Grab some command hooks, a garland, ornaments, and string lights. String the garland and lights through the command hooks and decorate with your ornaments. It’s a super cute and easy way to add Christmas flare to your room!

2. Mini Christmas tree

You can get a very mini tree to put on your desk if you are extra tight on space, or get a bigger one that can go in open spaces, such as in front of your window or an empty corner.

3. Roomie stockings

Pick up custom stockings with your roommates’ names (or initials) and command hooks. Add them to the room and fill them with stocking stuffers.

4. Overhead lights

If you’re feeling extra fancy, get some string lights and LOTS of command hooks. You can create a zigzag pattern across your ceiling by hooking the lights diagonally across the room. Add some ornaments for extra flare.

5. Throw blankets and pillows

This is a super easy way to spice up the room without taking up any space. Grab some cutesy pillows or blankets and decorate the room.

On Your Door

1. Start with some colored paper

Gold and silver are super pretty. You can tape it onto your door or wrap it around to the inside.

2. Pick a decoration theme

You can make a tree with some tinsel garlands, add candy cane or reindeer decals, design your door to look like a present, or be creative and come up with something new!

3. Decorating around the border

Add some tinsel garlands, a sparkly curtain, or something else to spice up the outside.

4. If your RA is okay with it, add some decorations to the hall!

You can tape candy canes, trees, Santa’s, snowmen, snowflakes, hot chocolate, or reindeer decals to the walls of your hall to bring in the Christmas Spirit!
