Goodbye, Gossip Girl

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bentley chapter.

As depressing as it is, Gossip Girl is coming to a quick end. The renewal of the sixth season called for only a 10 episode run to end in December 2012. It breaks my heart knowing the show I have watched since high school and have learned many lessons from (believe it or not) will be gone. The last six years has made me feel like I’m a part of their exclusive Upper East Side clique full of drama, revenge and heartbreak but also the most durable friendships that can get through anything. Here are my favorite 10 Gossip Girl moments from seasons 1-5. Comment with your favorite below!

10. Nate and Serena’s Steamy Hookup

A lot of skepticism was felt when Gossip Girl first announced its transformation from a book into a TV series. These doubts were quickly squashed in season 1 when we saw Blair Waldorf’s (Leighton Meester) boyfriend, Nate Archibald (Chase Crawford), hook up with her best friend, Serena Van der Woodsen (Blake Lively) after a wedding. They kept it their own personal dirty secret until Nate let it out to Blair. This was a flashback but it is incredibly sexy. Ever since this moment, Nate has had a thing for S. This set the series off for an interesting dynamic.

9.    Blair’s Cabaret Dance at The Victrola

In this scene, Constance Billard’s queen bee sheds her “royal” image when she lets loose in Chuck’s (Ed Westwick) new burlesque club, The Victrola. Clean off of her break up with Nate, her dance was enough to make Chuck weak in the knees and lead to Blair finally losing her V-card to him in the back of a limo. What a game changer.

8.    Serena Accidentally Kills Someone

Georgina Sparks (Michelle Trachtenberg), also known as the sworn enemy of the Upper East Siders, comes back from S’s troubled past to blackmail her. With the threat of revealing a huge secret that could destroy her, Serena opts to come clean to her friends: on a drug fueled night, Georgina tried to tape Serena and an acquaintance having sex. However, what they caught on film was Pete dying of an overdose. No wonder why Serena escaped to boarding school!

7.    Jenny’s Guerilla Fashion Show

“Little J” is quite the rebel. Dan Humphrey’s (Penn Badgley) little sister, Jenny (Taylor Momsen), does the unthinkable at a charity event for Lily (Kelly Rutherford) and Bart Bass (Robert John Burke) by interrupting the event with a guerilla fashion show. This was a stand-out moment in Gossip Girl history because it showed the transformation of Jenny as the good girl into a heavy black eyeliner wearing insubordinate.

6.    Chuck tells Blair he Loves her

This was a moment any Gossip Girl fanatic was waiting for. At the end of season two, we finally got our wish. Chuck and Blair never had the right timing – they never had feelings for each other at the same time and everything seemed to get in their way. At one point, they magically become on the same page and Chuck utters three little words that brought tears to my eyes!

5.    The Car Accident

Serena finds herself tired up in a complicated affair with a married politician, Nate’s cousin Trip. And like these things usually go, Trip ditches his mistress at the time she needs him most. After the two get into a car accident, Trip flees the scene –and an unconscious Serena – in order to save his own reputation. Have no fear though, karma got back to Trip – it wouldn’t be Gossip Girl if it wasn’t that way.

4. Georgina’s Pregnant?

Georgina’s welcomes herself to the Upper East Side, but not alone. With a baby! And who’s baby is it? Dans! Of course, rather than asking for a paternity test (who would want one of those?!), Dan takes Georgina and Milo in and becomes Father of the Year. But truth to be told, he isn’t Milo’s father.

3.    The Pool Party

Haven’t we all dreamed of one day breaking into our school and throwing the biggest rager anyone has ever seen? Of course, the students of Constance Billard made that happen. After Serena broke into the pool, a boy almost died. This party caused the suspension of Nate after he attempted to stop Blair from getting into trouble and Serena from almost getting expelled

2.    Who’s Charlie?

Anyone remember sweet Charlie Rhodes, Serena’s cousin from Florida? That’s actually Ivy (Kaylee Defer)! The real Charlie’s mother is actually Lily’s sister and she hires her to pretend to be her daughter and get money from their families bank account. Crazy? Yes. Entertaining? Yes. Realistic? Not so much. But who cares! And if you think Ivy was gone for good, keep thinking. She is here to stay until the end of the series!

1.    Blair’s Marriage… Or lack thereof.

This was by far my favorite moment of the Gossip Girl series! The tone went from tears of happiness to tears of heartbreak within seconds. Blair has just married the man of her dreams, Prince Louis. The wedding had intricate details and required Blair to forget about her love for Chuck. During Blair and Louis’ first dance, Louis whispers to Blair that there is nothing between them but a contract and their marriage is nothing but a show. As mean as Blair can be, no one deserves this. But if anyone can come back stronger than ever, it’s Queen B.

There you have it collegiettes! Don’t forget to watch the finale in December and try not to cry too much as we say goodbye to the people who have changed our teenage years!
