The “Friends” Characters, Ranked

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bentley chapter.

For those of you who didn’t know, I think it’s safe to say that Friends is the best and most cherished 90s sitcom of all time. I just finished binge-watching the show on Netflix, and came up with my definitive ranking of the top Friends characters, from my least favorite to favorite character.

6.)  Ross Geller

Sorry for all you Ross Geller fans out there, but when it came down to it, our eccentric paleontologist had to make the bottom of the list. Don’t get me wrong, Ross has his share of funny moments—like getting trapped in leather pants, or an accidental, over-the-top spray tan. Still, he sometimes comes off as way too whiney—not to mention how messed up it was not telling Rachel they were still married, or saying the wrong name at the altar.

5.)  Monica Geller

I also love Monica, and most of the time totally resonated with so many of her struggles. Her and Chandler’s relationship was so cute, and I loved any flashback or reference to her high school days. My only complaint is that sometimes, she would get annoying with her overtly controlling and overly-competitive personality.

4.)  Rachel Green

I feel like Rachel’s character went through the most drastic change throughout the show, and it was great to see her grow. It was really fun to watch her slowly conquer love, work, and motherhood. She may not have been the funniest character, but she is definitely an integral part of the show as a whole.

3.)  Joey Tribbiani

Joey managed to make me smile every time he came on screen! He is such a loveable and goofy character, and is also very sweet and loyal. There are so many iconic Joey moments that I can’t pick a favorite—but I’ll settle on his iconic “Joey doesn’t share food!” as one of my favs.

2.)  Phoebe Buffay

With Phoebe, you either love her or hate her—but I definitely found her hilarious. She is so different from all the other friends with her quirky, free-thinking spirit. It’s insane thinking about her whole life story and how her rough childhood shaped her—yet she was such a steady presence and always managed to surprise us.

1.)  Chandler Bing

Undoubtedly, Chandler Bing will always be my favorite Friends character of all time. His witty, sarcastic comments always managed to make me burst out laughing. Every one of Chandler’s lines always ended up being a really clever and flat out hilarious quip, which I believe is one of the most iconic aspects of the entire series.
