Empty Your Stress, Not Your Wallet This Spring Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bentley chapter.

With Spring Break right around the corner, most of us can probably admit that while in class we’re more likely to be day dreaming about the perfect, all-expenses paid vacation than really listening to what’s going on at the front of the room (If you say you don’t do this, I would like to guess that you just MAY be lying).  So while we all do not necessarily have the excess funds to splurge on our dream trip, I personally think that after going through this brutal semester filled with projects, exams, and group presentations, we all deserve a vacation!  Here are some great ways to vacation without completely emptying your bank account.

  • If you’re craving to get away from this blah New England weather, there is still time to book a last minute trip! On Orbitz, they are offering a special discount just for Spring Breakers!  They are offering $50 off of a trip, also included in the discount is a package which includes a flight and hotel stay! This package deal will save you even more money than buying the two separately, which is perfect for us students on a budget! Orbitz Spring Break Discount!

If you already have plans to get away but need to watch your spending, here are some tips about how to save some cash once you’ve arrived at your destination!

  • Make a pre-departure checklist of your luggage to make sure you have everything you’ll possibly need.  When you arrive at a touristy location, many everyday items will be priced EXTREMELY high, because even if you forget something like sunblock or toothpaste you’ll buy it just because you need it.  Don’t make the mistake of not being prepared, those dollars add up!
  • If you’re driving to your destination or have a rental car waiting for you, there are ways to avoid spending more than you need to on gas.  If you’re going to a place where you are unfamiliar with the roads, consider going online and mapping out your routes in advance so you will not wind up driving all around trying to figure out where you’re going.  Also, you can find the cheapest gas stations online before you head out for the day! No need to overpay when you can use Gasbuddy  to find the cheapest gas in your area!
  • Coupons not only will save you money on your vacation, but you can actually find them everywhere! The only problem is that sometimes people take these deals for granted!  You can get coupons for almost anything, and most of the time they give ideas of fun things to do in the area that you would not have normally thought of!  Coupons can be found online (usually on the tourism site for your destination), in your hotel lobby (or any hotel lobby for that matter), local grocery stores, and also visitor centers are always the top places where these discounts can normally be found!
