Emily’s Wednesday Matinee: What You Missed this Week

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bentley chapter.

This time of year promises to be super busy as the end of the school year quickly approaches. However, if you are anything like me, you are probably too busy playing 2048 to get much work done, let alone keep on top of your movie news. Lucky for you, I always keep up on my movie news; enjoy the top stories you might have missed this week!

The Goonies sequel?

It has been almost thirty years since the cult classic film was released. However, this past week The Goonies director, Richard Donner, stated that a sequel is in the works. Donner stated in an interview with TMZ that his next film with be a follow-up to the 1985 film. He also stated that he would like to get the entire original cast back together for the film. This is not the first time Goonies 2 have flown. In 2010, Josh Brolin stated that a script was already completed. It is probably way too early to get my hopes up, but like they say…Goonies never say die.

Mickey Rooney Dies

The original teen star died this past Sunday, April 6, 2014 at the age of 93. An original Hardy Boy, Rooney has appeared in films from the 1920s all the way up through 2012. He appeared in other films including Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Night at the Museum, The Fox and the Hound, and Requiem for a Heavyweight.  90s kids will remember Rooney from his appearance in the Disney Channel Original Movie, Phantom of the Megaplex. Throughout his career, Mickey Rooney was awarded two Academy Awards, two Golden Globes, and one Emmy Award. We’re sad to see you go, Mickey!

Karate Kid 2 has a director

I never saw the Karate Kid remake, but Karate Kid 2 is in the works. While it has yet to be said when the film will be completed and set for release, things are swiftly moving forward. Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan are signed on to reprise their roles of Dre Parker and Mr. Han respectively. The film also finally has found a director in Breck Eisner. Eisner has previously directed 2005 film Sahara starring Matthew McConaughey and Penelope Cruz.

Game of Thrones is renewed for two more seasons

After the struggle that was HBO GO this past Sunday, April 6 during the season four premiere of Game of Thrones, the show recorded record breaking numbers that have not be seen since the Sopranos finale. Get excited GoT fans; HBO has ordered a fifth and sixth season for the fantasy-adventure show.
