Why spend an outrageous amount of money on Halloween costumes at the store when you can make some with the items you have sitting in your closet? Not sure what to make? Check out our HC Bentley approved list of DIY costumes:

  1. Football player– This is effortlessly cute and easy to throw together. Use either your own football jersey from your favorite team or use this as an excuse to flirt with some guys and ask to borrow theirs. Then pair it with shorts or some leggings and some sneakers and you’re ready to go! Not only will you look adorable, but you’ll also be one of the most comfortably dressed girls around.

Katniss Everdeen– Why not go as everyone’s favorite huntress? Katniss was only starting to come onto the scene last year, but this year she is arriving with full force. For this costume all you need is a brown leather (or pleather) jacket, a black tee, skinny jeans and brown leather boots. Then just braid your hair to one side and either buy a fake bow and arrow or make one yourself out of things you have lying around your room! You’ll look current and cute without having to worry about sore feet at the end of the night!

Minnie Mouse– Thought you would never have a use for those Mickey ears you got at Disney? Think again! Grab your favorite mouse ears and pair them with a red, black, and white dress or skirt combo. Extra points if you can find a red skirt with white polka-dots! It’s a perfect substitute for the old cat costume you find all over campus and you can make it with whatever you have in your closet!

Where’s Waldo– Why should only guys get to dress up as this hipster? All you need for this costume is a red striped shirt, red and white hat, and thick, big glasses and you’re ready to go. This can even become a group costume and other party goers have to figure out who is the right one!

Duct-tape Costume– This one takes a little more skill but has the advantage of being whatever you want it to be. The basic idea is you create a duct-tape dress and then you can paint whatever you want on it. Here’s a how-to guide with a couple different methods for you to try. While the sky is the limit, some possible ideas are candy bars, the four seasons, a crayon, and countless others.
