Boston Ballet’s, “The Nutcracker”

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bentley chapter.

With the holidays soon approaching, many of you might be worried about purchasing the best gifts for everyone.

Don’t forget to take time and enjoy the season! To get in the holiday cheer, there is nothing better than attending the Boston Ballet’s, The Nutcracker. The show, which is choreographed by Boston Ballet’s Mikko Nissinen, will be changing to a new version next season. It is unknown still which changes will be occurring, but many assume the new show will have different outfits, dance moves, and a new format.

For those who are unfamiliar, The Nutcracker follows the story of Clara Silberhause who is given a nutcracker from her Uncle Drosselmeier at their family’s Christmas party. That night, Clara is awoken at midnight to find her Christmas tree growing nonstop and her Nutcracker to be a live soldier. The Nutcracker brings Clara on a magical journey to visit the Sugar Plum Fairy and many other characters in the Palace of Sweets.

This season’s Nutcracker performances are being held between November 25 and December 31 at the historic Boston Opera House. The Opera House is located right in the heart of the Theatre District on Washington Street. The theatre is newly renovated and contains a variety of different seating options, each with a reasonable view of the stage.

Nutcracker tickets range in price from $35 to $164 and are offered for both matinees and night performances. Tickets can be purchased on the Boston Ballet’s website and also on other ticket sites for the Boston area.

The show consists of two acts; the first being an introduction to Clara and the Nutcracker, and the second, their journey to the Place of Sweets. Music for the performance is played live by the well-acclaimed Boston Ballet’s Orchestra, which is the second largest musical organization in Boston. Their rendition of Peter Ilych Tchaikovsky’s music is impeccably timed with each dance and brings the performance together.

Don’t miss out on the last performances of the current version of the Boston Ballet’s, The Nutcracker! Make sure to get tickets as early as possible since this performance is quite popular and sells out quickly. It’s a great performance to start off your holiday season!
