Birthday on a Budget

Birthdays are kind of a big deal—I mean they only happen once a year. But they can also be pretty stressful. We all want our friends to feel loved on their special day, but with all of the other things us college students have going on, it can be difficult (and expensive) to coordinate a big celebration. Here are some ideas and inspiration to help you plan your next birthday party without breaking the bank or overwhelming your schedule.

Decorations

When it comes to decorations, I like to stick to the three Bs: balloons, backdrops, and banners. These are simple but effective ways to transform a space for a birthday. You can adapt this for any theme, color scheme, or age to match the person you’re celebrating. This also gives you a great set up for pictures!

If you want to do a bit more, consider adding table cloths and decor to surfaces in the space. This is a nice way to make everything feel more cohesive. For table decor, you can purchase flowers (fake or real), add some fun props to take pictures with, buy balloon stands, or even sprinkle some confetti on the area.

Birthday accessories

One of my favorite things to do for someone’s birthday is to buy them an accessory to wear for the day. Whether it be a sash, tiara, or headband, a birthday accessory is a simple way to make the birthday girl feel special and to get her excited for the day. It’s also fun for them to wear out because other people will wish them a happy birthday.

Dessert

Another crucial element to any birthday party is cake. Really, though, any sweet treat will do. Baking someone their favorite dessert is a nice way to show you care and to put some extra love into your celebration. If you don’t have a lot of time though, go buy their favorite dessert from the store. It’s the thought that counts!
