The past two summers, I’ve lived in Boston and tasted lots of food in the area. If you haven’t tried any of the restaurants I’m about to mention, then you should definitely take the time to visit them!
Here are some of my favorite places and dishes:
Stephanie’s on Newbury
Located right on Newbury Street, this classy restaurant is GREAT for people-watching. During the summer, there is outdoor seating. Sunday brunch is a big deal here – the tables fill up quickly! The food tends to be a bit pricey, but it’s definitely worth it. For lunch, try the Cobb Salad with ranch dressing – it comes in a crispy tortilla shell with corn, tomatoes, egg, red onion, bacon, avocado, grilled chicken and romaine lettuce.
The Pour House
This Boylston Street dive bar is popular for many reasons: great brunch, deals on dinners, fun party spot and cheap, great food! For breakfast, try the omelets – Brunch is Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. For dinner, make sure to go on a day when there is a deal! For example, Tuesday: Mexican Madness from 6:00-10:00 p.m.; Wednesday: Crazy Chicken Night from 6:00-10:00 p.m. (All grilled chicken sandwiches are ½ off!); and Saturday: Burger Mania from 6:00-10:00 p.m. (All burgers are half price!) This bar is also very busy on nights and weekends, especially when Boston teams are playing.
Trident Booksellers
Is it really a restaurant inside of a bookstore? My friend once told me that Gisele Bündchen was seen eating breakfast here on Newbury Street. Even though Trident has daily meals, try the breakfast foods and smoothies! For breakfast, try the breakfast burrito scrambled eggs with avocado, onion, mushrooms, and cheddar cheese wrapped in a tortilla.
Fajita’s and Rita’s
Located at the top of the Boston Common, this Mexican restaurant is cheap and amazing. When I went with a few friends, we shared an order of nachos which was so huge, we didn’t even have the appetite to order anything else. When ordering, you just write down your order on a menu sheet and the waitress or waiter comes around and picks it up. We wrote down, specifically, what we wanted on the nachos (cheese, sour cream, guacamole, lettuce, tomatoes, etc.) and the server delivered it, quickly. The margaritas were also great – we tried the frozen raspberry margaritas – yum!
La Famiglia Giorgio
Everyone loves student discounts, right? This great Italian restaurant, located in the North End, has a 20% off discount for students and teachers, when you show your ID! This is great since being on a budget and eating out can be difficult to do as a college student. When I was here, I tried the veal parmesan with a side of spaghetti with oil and garlic. The bread in the beginning of the meal was also great!
