You either love the Patriots or you hate them. You either are loud and obnoxious about how many times they have played in the Super Bowl or you are rooting against them with a burning passion. Sometimes it seems like there is no in between! For many people, it doesn’t matter who the Patriots are playing; as long as the Patriots lose, who cares what team wins? Those of us who go to school in New England aren’t sure which is worse: having grumpy professors on Monday if the Patriots lose or listening to our classmates obnoxiously bragging about the Patriots if they win.

So what makes the Patriots and their fans so annoying? According to one Bentley student, “They are just really obnoxious because they believe they are better than everyone else. I’ve lived in Massachusetts my whole life, and I still hate them because they think they’re superior in existence to every other team and don’t give other teams any respect.”

Another Bentley student commented that he thinks it is despicable how the Patriots believe they are above the law (referencing the deflate scandal as well as how the Patriots videotaped other teams’ practices to learn their strategies). On the other hand, I personally believe the reason most people hate the Patriots is out of pure jealousy. The way that Patriots fans unite and stand behind their team no matter what is truly remarkable, and it is hard to deny that Patriots fans show the most team spirit out of any fans anywhere.

No matter who you are rooting for in the Super Bowl today, recognize and appreciate that this will be the Patriots 11th Super Bowl appearance. That doesn’t mean you have to like them, but know that Patriots fans are incredibly proud of their team (just like you would be if it was your team)!

And for those of you who truly loathe the Patriots, know that there is one plus if the Patriots win the Super Bowl today: Dunkin’ Donuts will offer medium hot or iced coffees for a dollar on Monday!

**So it’s a win-win: cheap coffee or the Patriots losing!**
