8 Things Every Basic Should Know About the World Series

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bentley chapter.

I’m not saying that there’s an alarmingly small amount of female baseball fans on Bentley’s campus, I’m just saying that on more than one occasion I heard the San Francisco Giants be referred to as “the team who’s stadium Kanye proposed to Kim at.”

As a lifetime fan of baseball and the Red Sox, it almost physically pains me to hear comments such as these. Don’t get me wrong, I’m absolutely not the type to sit down and watch an episode of Sports Center, but c’mon girls, let’s keep up a little bit, could we?

Instead of rolling my eyes at my ladies on campus, I figured I would instead be proactive about the situation and lay down a few facts for all you non-baseball loving Basics on this campus.

1. The World Series is played in a seven game series, and the team that wins four games first is the World Champion. In this Series, the San Francisco Giants beat the Kansas City Royals in Game seven by a score of 3-2.

2. Please avoid confusing the San Fran Giants with the New York Giants. Eli Manning does not, I repeat does NOT play for these Giants.

3. Yes Kanye West and Kim Kardashian got engaged at AT&T Park in San Francisco. No that is not where they won. The Giants won at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.

4. Please also avoid thinking that Kansas City is in Kansas. If I had a quarter for every time I’ve had to clear up this confusion in my life, I would have about two years of Bentley tuition paid off. If this fact shocked you, please, for the love of God take a global studies class.

5. The Giants and the Royals had almost exactly the same winning percentage during the season, so please refrain from using the phrase “it was a huge upset!” It wasn’t.

6. Derek Jeter is not on either of these teams.  He’s probably on a golf course somewhere in Florida with his Victoria’s Secret model girlfriend.

7. This is the third world championship the Giants have won in five years. Yes, this is a big deal.

8. Lastly, this is Buster Posey, the catcher for the Giants. I don’t have a fact to follow this, I just thought you all would appreciate him in all his studly glory. You’re welcome.
