What It’s Truly Like to Live With a Cat

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Belmont chapter.

1. Everything you thought you own is now the cat’s.  That special pillowcase you bought to fight off frizz? It’s the cat’s now. That comfy sweater? The cat’s. That coffee table next to the couch? It’s the cat’s. EVERYTHING IS THE CAT’S NOW.

2. There will not be anymore room for you. Your floor will be covered with cat toys, scraps of paper that your cat thinks are super important, cat caves, cat trees, and scratching posts galore. Every time you walk, you’ll step on a toy that jingles or has feathers attached. Just accept it and move on.

3. There will be cat hair… EVERYWHERE. Even if you have a short-haired, cat you still end up picking tiny hairs off everything from your clothes to your laptop.

4. Cats are flexible and curious little creatures, which means they have to climb in and on everything. Your blinds? They are a loud playground for the kitten. Your closet? Ample places to hide and explore! Your jewelry tree? Dangling jungle gym! Needless to say, every night is a new adventure full of new noises that you just don’t have the energy for at 3 am.

5. You can only hold and love your cat on their time. If you try to pick up your cat when they want to run free, then be prepared for the fastest get away you’ve ever seen. They will crawl over your shoulder, under your arm, over your face, or anything to escape the hug.

6. But when they are loving… man, are they loving! They want hugs, kisses, pets, ear rubs, and anything you can give them.

7. But despite all craziness they will steal your heart and you will fall more in love every single day. Oh, and they love you too, I promise!
