You Don’t Need Spring Break Plans!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

It’s every college students right of passage: spring break. Between movies that seriously overhype the entire affair to your roommates that will not stop talking about how much they “actually want to do something this year”, you decide that a week at the beach is exactly what you need. So you gather your friends, sit down to actually start planning and luckily find a destination that everyone agrees on. Things are going well, and you’re getting closer and closer to actually booking the trip, then what happens? You soon realize that everyone went into this with a different expectation and all of a sudden your carefully researched plans crumble before your eyes. College students all have different circumstances so planning a vacation with a lot of people can be exceptionally difficult, and before you know it, there’s a heated discussion on how long to go for and where to stay. A supposedly relaxing week has morphed the members of your 8-man into irritable centers of stress.

After all of this aggravation, you decide to forgo the beach plans and head home. Now what do you do? It’s early enough in the semester where you’re not super wiped out, so you need something to occupy your time other than your bed. Use this time to be extremely productive. It is so easy to get caught up with all of the work we do throughout the semester, and as a result we let a lot of necessary things fall through the cracks. Use this week to tweak your resume, update your LinkedIn, or actually submit those internship applications you’ve been putting off since Christmas. It will be easy to stay focused since you’ll be avoiding your friends’ beach photos on Facebook.

This break doesn’t have to solely be filled with work. Do something for yourself while you’re home. Bake cookies with your mom, go shopping with your sister, or watch a movie with your dad. If any of your high school friends are home, this is a great time to catch up, because you likely won’t see them again until the summer. If none of the above appeals to you, binge watching Netflix is always necessary. Whatever you make of it, Spring Break is a chance to refocus after surviving half of the semester. The time off will give you a chance to take a break and think about how you are spending your time and who you are spending it with, and if that is something that will work for you.
