Why Valentine’s Day Isn’t Just for Couples

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

When someone mentions Valentine’s Day, most people automatically think of a day for couples and people in relationships. However, I have come to learn that February 14th is more than just this: it is a day to celebrate the friends, family, and loves in your life. It is a day to say “thank you” to everyone you love and appreciate. Everyone can partake in Valentine’s Day because everyone has someone they love.

First of all, take the day to love yourself. If Valentine’s Day is a day of love and appreciation, then you should be the first on that list. Make sure to give yourself a little extra love on this day, because you deserve it out of everyone.

Next, take time to think about your parents and siblings. My family has been my key support system throughout my whole life. They have been there for all the key moments in your life and will be there for the future. In the busyness of life, we often forget to stop to talk or say “thank you.” Take this day to make sure they know you love them.

Make sure to call your best friend. They are there for you through thick and thin and love you unconditionally. They know how to lift you up when you are feeling down and create endless laughter. Take a little time out of your day to let them know you love them.

If you have a significant other, make sure you do something special, even if it is something small to say “I love you.” A little love goes a long way. However, don’t forget your friends and family, because they love you too.

The spirit of Valentine’s Day is all about love in every aspect of your life! Have a great day of love!
