Why It’s Important To Have Guy Friends

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

Guy friends. Every girl wants them, but a lot of us tend to be held back by the phrase, “You can’t just be friends with a guy.” Well, I’m here to tell you that that’s definitely not true. Although our girlfriends will always have a special place in our hearts, it is important to keep guys around who can offer fresh perspectives and make sure you don’t forget to laugh every once and a while.

Let’s say you just started dating a new guy, and he said or did something that you don’t really know how to respond to. The best way to find out what he is thinking is to simply ask a guy friend, who can give you a male’s interpretation and explain to you why your boyfriend is doing what he is doing. Although your girlfriends may think they know what they’re talking about when it comes to guy troubles, the best way to fix a boy problem is to talk to another boy. It’s that simple.

Another reason why guy friends are good to have around is there’s no drama involved with them, and they won’t get upset with you over little things. Guys are much more straightforward when it comes to resolving issues, and they usually won’t be the ones gossiping or spreading rumors about anyone. Although a little drama doesn’t hurt once and a while, it’s always nice to have a friend who you can talk to about things that don’t involve girl fights and the latest fashion trends.

Overall, friendships with guys are generally more relaxed and laidback than with girls, and although they sometimes my lead to something more, most are platonic with no-strings-attached. Everyone knows guys are fun to be around, and knowing you have a guy who has your back is one of the best feelings in the world.
