I love Boston College, plain and simple. One of the ways I get to share that love is through the Student Admissions Program (SAP). Once a week, I give tours to prospective BC students and their families. I get to take them around our gorgeous campus and tell them all about student life and academics for about an hour.
The application and training process for tour guides is fairly extensive. I really enjoyed getting to learn more about the school I love so much. As a Lynch student, I got to learn more about CSOM (which is basically a foreign country to me), Nursing, and A&S, as well as about ResLife, BC Dining, and some of the buildings on campus. It’s really cool to get to tell not only my tours but also my friends about all the new knowledge I have.
I talk almost nonstop, so tours are perfect for me. I essentially talk for an hour about whatever I want about BC, and people ask me questions about my favorite place in the world, and then I go on my merry way. It’s ideal. I love fielding questions about things like the Superfan culture, going into Boston, my favorite classes, and other things that are unique to my BC experience.
Being able to show off my second home to a new generation of Eagles is really exciting. I love seeing the prospects for the incoming class. My favorite part about tours, though, is the very end when the group goes their separate ways. A lot of people say thank you, or ask for directions back to the parking garage, or ask where to get a cup of coffee. But on rare occasions, people will tell me how much they enjoyed the tour or their day in general at BC, and that’s the best compliment I could get. Hearing that I may have impacted someone’s college decision process is an unmatchable feeling.
Plus, there’s a dress code, and who doesn’t love an excuse to dress up?!
