Although there may be controversy surrounding how she died, it is undisputed that Whitney Houston was a spectacular singer with an amazing voice, insurmountable spirit, and entertaining songs.  At age 48, Whitney Houston passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2012 leaving behind a legendary career that touched her fans, fellow musical artists, and music listeners around the world.  Her life had ups and downs, and Whitney had her own personal struggles, yet her music and talent never faltered.  Although she may have passed, the power of her music and her name will live on.  One way to allow Whitney to live on is to live through her lyrics.  HCBC would like to honor Whitney Houston by highlighting her ten most memorable lyrics that we can live by.  From beautiful ballads to dynamic dance songs, Whitney had a way with words.

“One Moment in Time”
Each day I live
I want to be
A day to give
The best of me
I’m only one
But not alone
My finest day
Is yet unknown

Whitney’s Wisdom:  Each day is an opportunity to be the best you can be and to reach a new and unknown potential.

“I Will Always Love You”
I hope life treats you kind
And I hope you have all you’ve dreamed of.
And I wish to you, joy and happiness
But above all this, I wish you love

Whitney’s Wisdom:  Breaking up isn’t always so bad.  Goodbyes can be bittersweet, but it is important to move on and know that there is still happiness out there for both people.

“How Will I Know”
I’m asking you what you know about these things
How will I know if he’s thinking of me
I try to phone but I’m too shy (can’t speak)
Falling in love is all bittersweet
This love is strong why do I feel weak

Whitney’s Wisdom:  Love is powerful.  It can consume you!  You may not always know the answers and you may feel lost but if it is love, the answers will come.

“Saving All My Love For You”
You used to tell me we’d run away together
Love gives you the right to be free
You said to be patient, just wait a little longer
But that’s just an old fantasy

Whitney’s Wisdom:  Love is worth waiting for IF it is meant to be.  Remember to be realistic because sometimes what you hope for is just a retired memory or distant fantasy.

“Greatest Love of All”
I decided long ago, never to walk in anyone’s shadows
If I fail, if I succeed at least I live as I believe
No matter what they take from me
They can’t take away my dignity

Whitney’s Wisdom:  Be true to yourself and create the path you choose to follow in life.

“I Wanna Dance With Somebody”
I’ve been in love and lost my senses
Spinning through the town
Sooner or later the fever ends
And I wind up feeling down

Whitney’s Wisdom:  When life gets you down, when you feel alone, just dance!

“Didn’t We Almost Have it All”
We’ll never lose it again
Cause once you know what love is
You never let it end

Whitney’s Wisdom:  Once you experience love, you know what it feels like.  You may not be able to explain it, but you know you will never lose it.

“So Emotional”
I don’t know why I like you
I just do…

Whitney’s Wisdom:  Sometimes you can’t explain why or how, but you just simply go with your feelings. That’s okay.

“It’s Not Right, But It’s Okay”
It’s not right, but it’s okay
I’m gonna make it anyway
Close the door behind you, leave your key
I’d rather be alone than unhappy

Whitney’s Wisdom:  Better to be alone than to be mismatched.  Be yourself, with yourself and not for someone else.

“Exhale”
Sometimes you’ll laugh
Sometimes you’ll cry
Life never tells us, the when’s or why’s
When you’ve got friends, to wish you well
You’ll find your point when
You will exhale

Whitney’s Wisdom:  You may not have all the answers, but if you surround yourself with support, it is okay to just be you.  Don’t become overwhelmed by the unknown.  Breathe.
