Beanpot Champions!

The BC Men’s Hockey Team won the Beanpot Championship on Monday. At first what seemed to be a close game turned into a blowout at the end of the third period; BC beat Northeastern 4-1. Each of the student bodies had a huge presence in the stands of TD Garden, which provided for an amazing setting for the heated rivalry between the Northeastern and BC fans. As BC Men’s Hockey continues it’s impressive winning streak (5 Beanpot Championships in a row!), Women’s Hockey also competed in the Beanpot Championship on Tuesday and won!

Olympic Men’s US Hockey team wins over Russia…in front of Putin

More from hockey on the global stage—the US Men’s Olympic Hockey team beat Russia in a hard fought game that ended in an intense 8-round shoot out. The shootout led to a 3-2 victory for the US, and was all the more impressive of a game as it was had in the presence of Vladimir Putin. It was an incredible game, and is one that will certainly be remembered in Olympic history.

Scotland Legalizes Same-Sex Marriage

Scotland became the 17th country to legalize same-sex marriage despite intense opposition from its primary religious organizations. This certainly marks a socially liberalizing trend in nations across the globe when it comes to controversial issues like same-sex marriage. It was made clear that religious institutions cannot significantly oppose the legality of the legislation because it does not compel them to have same-sex services on their premises.

                                 

Seth Meyers’ last night on SNL

And finally, in the spirit of “Weekend Update”, Seth Meyers had his last night on Saturday Night Live. The final episode featured an emotional appearance by both “Stefon” and Amy Poehler, adding to the nostalgia of the moment. Seth Meyers is certainly headed towards bigger things—his next endeavor will be hosting Late Night. And who isn’t excited to see more of Seth Meyers?
