Sadly, spring break is over, which means most of us have returned to the freezing tundra that is Boston College. The shock of returning to such cold weather has probably caused most of us to tune out and completely ignore the news circulating around us this week. Well, no worries! Time to thaw out and get caught up on what’s going on in the world.
Pi Day!
While I can’t say that I am one to celebrate anything math-related, I am totally supportive of anything dessert-related! March 14th, also known as 3/14, or better yet 3.14… marks the annual celebration of Pi, or pie! On this day every year, students and faculty come together to celebrate Pi, numbers, and decimals and usually indulge in a delicious piece of pastry to recognize the magnificence of math.  Math is hands down my least favorite subject, but there’s no way I could say no to a perfectly triangular piece of wild Maine blueberry pie, especially on a day dedicated to celebrating Pi(e). Maybe Pi Day is your favorite day of the year! If this is the case, you’re in luck because every day of the month of March is involved in March (3) of 2014 (’14)… 3.14 for the remainder of the month…? Don’t mind if I do!
Malaysia Jet Mystery Deepens
If you were traveling over spring break like me, then you too were probably terrified when you heard that a plane went missing, totally vanishing. My theory? Aliens. But that’s just me. Okay, all joking aside, this is actually really scary. Malaysian authorities have reported that in the past two days they have searched the pilots’ homes hoping to come across some information regarding what could have happened. Officials responsible for the investigation of the disappearance of Flight 370 have speculated that the plane could have only been taken down with someone at the controls, which is why the investigation has shifted focus toward the men in charge. But authorities are also looking into background information about every person on board. Many questions still remain: what was the motive of this potential hijacking? Where was the plane headed? And where is it now? This mystery is an ongoing investigation, so tune into your local news for more up-to-date information.Â
Pope’s First Year
Just one year after Pope Francis became head of the Catholic Church, people all around the world are celebrating the pope’s success. As a Jesuit leader, we BC students love to see our school’s spiritual values reflected in someone who is so popular across the globe. Pope Francis is a kind, loving, and accepting man whose faith in humanity warms our hearts. He is the kind of leader that needs to be the face of the Catholic Church, and we can only wait to see what he will do next.Â
Bachelor Finale
Easily the most entertaining night of the week was Monday, when the finale of ABC’s The Bachelor aired for all to watch as Juan Pablo disclosed minimal information about his supposed relationship with the blonde bombshell Nikki. In an anti-climactic ending, JP chose not to propose to his first choice girl and instead told her he “liked her a lot.” Like COME ON, what is that?! As Bachelor viewers, we were waiting to hear the highly anticipated “I love you” come out in JP’s sexy accent, but no, not even close. Following Nikki’s acceptance of JP’s final rose, the couple joined host Chris Harrison on After the Final Rose where the tension between the seasoned host and Juan Pablo was undeniable. Chris even started to crack jokes by the end of the hour, showing his frustration towards JP for not telling the audience any of his feelings toward his girlfriend, Nikki. But no worries, Andi is the next bachelorette, so hopefully we’ll be in store for a good season of the show!
Hope this helped you get caught up on what’s going on around the world. Remember, as important as your midterm paper is, so are the events happening in our world every day!Â
