While You Were Out: This Week’s Top News

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

As we all return back to campus, we become excited to share all the eventful news of what happened in our lives over spring break. We may have, however, missed other events going on in the news. Here is a quick recap of some top headlines from this past week.

Malaysia Airlines Plane Still Missing

One questions, how can an airplane in flight just disappears? This is the question boggling the minds of people everywhere, for Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 has been missing since Friday; contact has been lost from it as it was en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. Authorities are discovering, as the search continues that many of the passports used on the flight were stolen, for the passengers that were supposedly on the missing flight are safe and sound at home but have reported having heir passport stolen in the past. The mystery and search of how this happened and what is the cause behind it continues.

SATs Redesigned to Better Reflect What We Learn in School

Why do the changes we wish would affect us happen too late? Remember all those difficult SAT vocabulary words we learned for no reason other than to do well on the test? Or the essay we frantically wrote while trying to show our best writing skills? Both those aspects as well as many others are changing for the 2016 SATs. Some of the changes include the test being available to take on both paper and computer, the scoring changed back to 1600 with the essay section being optional, more focused math questions with some sections not allowing the use of calculators, a reading passage from a more important text instead of an obscure one, and the testing of words more commonly found in a college course

Ellen Tips Oscar’s Delivery Guy $1000

Imagine being a pizza delivery person and all of a sudden you realize your next order is going to the Oscars. Not the tech crew, not the security guys, but to the celebrities themselves. Ellen ordering pizza for the audience while hosting the celebrities was one of the hottest topics of the night, even above all the award winners. To deliver this hot pizza to the hottest celebrities would have been a dream come true. Big Mama’s and Papa’s Pizza delivery guy, Edgar Martirosyan received much more than that. Ellen had gathered over $600 in tips from the celebrities and then topped it off so that he received a $1,000 tip. That is a late night shift I would never forget.

I hope Her Campus BC has helped you feel more in the know. Welcome back to campus Eagles!
