It’s time to get in the fiesta spirit! Cinco de Mayo is here! It’s a holiday to indulge in as many margaritas and as much guacamole and chips as you can without feeling any guilt! With the convenience of the holiday falling on a weekend, I advise to all you HC BC readers to take full advantage of it! One may not think of Boston as a city flourishing with Mexican cuisine, but I have scoped out some amazing places that are worth trying on this festive holiday!
Papagayo is somewhere to go if you want friendly service and an accommodating place for large groups. You could easily live off of the pitchers of margaritas and guacamole made right at your table, but you should definitely save some room for their enchiladas.
El Pelon Taqueria is a Boston College staple! If you have not ventured across the street of St. Ignatius to El Pelon, then Cinco de Mayo is the perfect time! Their burritos are huge and leave you stuffed but wanting more. If you prefer something lighter, the tacos are delicious as well.
Temazcal Tequila Cantina is a place to go on the Waterfront if you are willing to splurge. This place defines a trendy spot. You are given an iPad to scroll through their delicious menu. For those of you over 21+, this is the perfect tequila bar for you; it has over 300 types of tequila and has won Best Tequila Bar in Boston. Once you move on from the complimentary chips with three salsas, you have multiple authentic Mexican options. For a little New England twist you could try the Lobster Guacamole.
Sunset Cantina is right off of the B Line at Saint Paul Street, and definitely worth stopping by whether for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. They have every alcoholic beverage available and the atmosphere is fun! If you’re in a mood for some Mexican cuisine, try the monstrous Top of the Border Fiesta Nachos toppling over with toppings. For a sweet fix there are the Roasted Apple and Caramelized Bananas Dessert Nachos! The cost fits in to a college budget so you can splurge on one of their 38 beers on tap!
This delicious nachos are surely big enough to share with all of your friends!
Dorado is a small yet popular spot in Coolidge Corner worth checking out. With a variety of fish, veggie and meat tacos all under $3 each, you cannot go wrong! The fish tacos are absolutely delicious and always use fresh local fish! For a real Mexican taste to wash it all down, you can try one of their assorted Aguas Frescas.
This Cinco de Mayo, make sure to bring your sombrero and stomachs when you try out any of these incredible places!
