Where Are They Now: ‘The Bachelor’ Couples

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

We’re all bombarded on every form of social media with talk of this season’s bachelor, Juan Pablo Galavis, and the recent marriage between last season’s bachelor Sean Lowe and Catherine Giudici. Whether or not we watch The Bachelor we’re all wondering, do the relationships even last?

We decided to take a look at Bachelor history. Out of the seventeen seasons, there were ten ending with proposals, which seemed pretty successful for finding love on a television show. It seems like a 59% success rate is great, right?  We decided to take a closer look at these engaged couples to see how they fared in the long run (after all, this show has been around since 2002).

Season 2: Aaron Buerge and Helene Ekserowicz

Aaron proposed to Helene, but they broke up after several weeks. Both couples remarried, and as far as we know are living happily.

Season 3: Andrew Firestone and Jen Schefft

Andrew proposed to Jen, but they too broke up, after several months. He remarried an actress and she was featured on the third season of The Bachelorette, but ended up finding love away from reality television. She is happily married with children.

Season 6: Byron Velvick and Mary Delgado

The couple was engaged, and did end up marrying, but they split up after five years.

Season 10: Andrew Baldwin and Tessa Horst

Andrew and Tessa were engaged, but called off the engagement one month after the finale aired. Despite this, they continued their relationship, until they eventually called it off months later.

Season 12: Matt Grant and Shayne Lamas

The couple split months after the finale because they felt like they were headed in two different directions, but they vowed to stay friends.

Season 13: Jason Mesnick and Melissa Rycroft

I vividly remember this dramatic season, in which Jason called off his engagement with Melissa and picked up his relationship with runner-up Molly Malaney. That didn’t stop Melissa from finding happiness, though, because she went on to marry and is expecting her second child this spring. Jason proposed to Molly in New Zealand, and they were married in 2010.  They welcomed their first daughter in March 2013.

Season 14: Jake Pavelka and Vienna Girardi

This was also an extremely dramatic season (I think we all remember Vienna…). Jake proposed, but the couple’s relationship ended quickly the summer after their season aired.  Jake went on to other reality shows and even returned to Bachelor Pad, on the same season as Vienna (the producers were really trying to get the views up.)

Season 15: Brad Womack and Emily Maynard

Brad returned after not finding love on his first season as the Bachelor during season 11. Brad and Emily broke up while their season was airing, and then they got back together during the season finale. However, they broke up for good in May of 2011. Emily went on to The Bachelorette and as far as we know Brad still hasn’t found the one.

Season 16: Ben Flajnik and Courtney Robertson

Although Ben proposed to Courtney, they broke up while their season was airing. They did later get back together and get engaged for a second time, but less than a year later they split up (they couldn’t make up their minds!) for good.

Season 17: Sean Lowe and Catherine Giudici

Sean and Catherine are personally my favorite Bachelor couple (not because Sean tweeted at me or because he read HC BC or anything like that…), but because this couple stressed the importance of being real and staying themselves after the thrill of the television ended.  Sean and Catherine got married recently, and although it is too soon to see how their relationship will turn out, I have faith in this couple!

Keep an eye out to see whom Juan Pablo will choose on this season of The Bachelor!
