What’s For Dinner?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

Often (every night), I find myself standing in front of my refrigerator staring at the endless amount of random groceries with no idea what to make. Usually this either ends in one of two ways, a) chipotle or b) grilled cheese. While both of these things are valid options, after a while they get old. Enter food bloggers. I love reading food blogs that have easy and relatively inexpensive meals that even a college student can make, and here are a couple of my favorites.

My number one food blog would have to be Skinnytaste. This blog offers healthy and amazing meals that are relatively simple to make, even when you just got home from night class and have no time. We also have a crockpot in my room which is the single best invention for college cooking ever, and this website has tons of crockpot recipes. Another great feature is that the author publishes all of the nutritional content on the recipes so that there is no guessing if you are counting calories or just curious. She is also coming out with a book in the near future full of some of the best recipes from the blog. Sign me up!

I also love the blog Iowa Girl Eats. She posts amazing recipes for all kinds of tastes and pallets and I love that there are also tons of dessert recipes perfect for any late-night sweets craving. She uses in-season produce which makes it easy to follow along with new recipes as the items you find will also be fresh in our grocery stores. The author is also a runner and avid traveler and posts all kinds of workout ideas and travel pictures which are a fun break in between all of the delicious meals.

Last but not least, I find tons of inspiration for meal ideas on Pinterest. They literally have every recipe ever and it’s so easy to navigate. There are lots of great people to follow that post great recipes and copy cats of your favorite restaurant meals. I also love just browsing for new ideas that I may have never thought of before. I may be slightly addicted to Pinterest, but I also make tons of recipes off of there and have had lots of success so I think it’s worth a try!

Cooking or baking is a great way to distress after a long day and it is also a fun way to hang out with your roommates and try new recipes together. After all is said and done, a lot of my favorite recipes come from family or friends, but it never hurts to look for inspiration in new places.  Try some of these and see if you feel the same. Bon Appetit!
