What Really Goes on in My Head During Class

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

I have the attention span of a squirrel. Ok, not actually, but you know what I mean. There are some classes where I am so focused on the material and them some classes where I am dying to leave. You know those people, or yourself, who tend to have the deepest thoughts you possibly ever had at night, I am one of those, except during my really boring classes. My mind floats away from the board and enters into a whole new world. This article is for all of the in-class thinkers out there if you even exist. If not, then this might be awkward.

First, I start thinking about home. I miss my comfy, full sized bed, my blue bedroom walls, and most importantly, showering without shoes. I miss being just steps away from my brothers’ room and joking around with my parents. I miss watching television on an actual TV.

Then, my thoughts shift.

Now, I think about how slowly time is going. Has the clock slowed down? Or is it just me?  How come Gilmore Girls episodes fly by, yet this class seems like an eternity? All I have to do is get through fifteen minutes of class…five times. You got this! Also, I could really use a nap right now.

As my mind wanders, and at this point is just lost, I realize all the things I need to do. Go to CVS, print out homework assignments, write my essays, edit articles, write articles, and basically everything that is irrelevant to what the professor fifteen feet in front of me is saying.

I pack snacks for class because food is life and if I am hungry in class, there’s essentially no point of me being there anymore.

My mind stops wandering, I take down some notes. Then, when the professor says, “This is not important, but…” my mind takes over once again and then tells me to think about everything I wish I could think of anytime, but now.

Maybe I should go to the Plex later. I should really start running again. Who am I kidding? Running is not for me. Should I lift or should I just stick to biking? Biking.

Then, I stare at the clock. Wow! Only forty-five minutes left!

After my realization, I then zone back into class and take notes because after all, that is why I am in class. Right?

Right.

Fast forward. Time is up and class is finally over. I have successfully taken down all the notes on the board and now I am free!

So, if any of you have thoughts flowing into your head during class, maybe you can relate to these thoughts.
