What Not to do When Flying

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

It’s finally Spring Break! You’ve made it through the cold wintery month of February at BC! Whether you are flying home or jetting off to a warm beach, please keep in mind simple air travel courtesies and DON’T be that person who does any of the following:

1) Do NOT recline your seat back.

If you are tall like me, you vehemently hate it when shorter people feel the need to recline backwards. There is nothing worse than finally getting comfortable in your seat and having someone push their seat back, shoving the tray table into your lap and giving you no room to breath. Be courteous and ask before you recline!

2) Do not bring smelly foods on the plane.

There is nothing more disgusting than being stuck in a small area with someone who brings a bucket of Popeyes or a stinky Chipotle burrito on the plane. Everyone will be stuck smelling it for the entire flight and it might even induce vomiting, so please stick to nuts and gum!

3) Do not be “that person” who brings a million bags on the plane.

I can’t tell you how many times I have seen passengers bring a carry-on suitcase, purse, lap-top bag, and six plastic bags completely full of stuff. Follow the rules like the rest of us and check a bag!

4) Do not get up a lot during the flight.

If you can, please try to stay seated during the flight. People who repeatedly get up to use the restroom or just walk around the plane can get frustrating, especially when you are in the aisle or middle seat.

These are just a few of the many things that you should not do on a plane. However, as long as you refrain from doing any of the offenses above, you should be safe! Enjoy your flight and remember your manners!
