There are a lot of terms we say at BC that don’t really make sense to people who don’t go here. So, I asked ten people from ten different schools what they think these BC terms mean. Here are some of the most popular (and funniest) answers!

The Rat

·      What It Really Is: the dining hall in Lyons for on-the-go food

·      People Who Have Never Visited BC: the worst spot on campus/sounds like a hang out place or dining hall

·      People Who Have Visited BC: “a food place?”

Eagle’s Nest

·      What It Really Is: a lunch spot in Mac

·      People Who Have Visited BC: “where the dean and important people are”

Jerry York

·      What It Really Is: the BC hockey coach and a living legend

·      People Who Have Never Visited BC: a library/a statue/a place to eat

·      People Who Have Visited BC: an important person

Newtonite

·      What It Really Is: a freshman who lives on Newton Campus 

·      People Who Have Never Visited BC: superman’s second weakness/a late night place to eat

·      People Who Have Visited BC: someone who lives on the secondary campus

CSOM

·      What It Really Is: Carroll School of Management, the business school

·      People Who Have Never Visited BC: a computer game/Catholic School Of …?

·      People Who Have Visited BC: one of the colleges

Million Dollar Stairs

·      What It Really Is: the set of stairs from lower to middle rumored to be heated (but actually aren’t)

·      People Who Have Never Visited BC: a legend/fancy stairs

·      People Who Have Visited BC: “the stairway you climb and almost feel like you’re going to die because it takes away your oxygen, but the end result is it gives you nice legs.”

Hillside

·      What It Really Is: a delicious food spot in Maloney that’s not on the meal plan (not bitter at all…)

·      People Who Have Never Visited BC: a green/just like a hill/stuff that goes on campus

·      People Who Have Visited BC: a place where it is hilly

BC Bubble

·      What It Really Is: the (mis)conception that people who go to BC don’t get out into Boston or leave campus

·      People Who Have Never Visited BC: “um… do they sell bubbles?”

·      People Who Have Visited BC: not associating with other schools

The Mods

·      What It Really Is: “permanently temporary” senior housing on lower campus

·      People Who Have Never Visited BC: an eating place/a part of campus

·      People Who Have Visited BC: a party place

MA’s

·      What It Really Is: the bar, Mary Ann’s, in Cleveland Circle

·      People Who Have Never Visited BC: different word for RA/Massachusetts people

·      People Who Have Visited BC: a bar

Upper

·      What It Really Is: the uppermost part of campus where half of the freshmen live

·      People Who Have Never Visited BC: the upper part of campus?

·      People Who Have Visited BC: “you have to climb a lot of stairs to get there, and it’s basically in Never Land because it’s so hard to get to, and taxis can never find their way there” (I sense a bit of resentment…) 

CoRo

·      What It Really Is: the group of sophomore housing on College Road

·      People Who Have Never Visited BC: a nickname for the GoPro

·      People Who Have Visited BC: the co-captain for a rowing team
