You don’t have to feel bad about forgoing your English reading if you’re watching educational television, right? Believe it or not, for some shows this is a worthy justification. These are the shows that are actually pretty handy when it comes to understanding politics, but are also Netflix-binge worthy.

House of Cards
This show follows the story of the House of Representatives Majority Whip. With his hand in everything (literally), Congressman Underwood is the tie between Congress, lobbying corporations, non-profit charities, and the (sometimes) sleazy press corp. From this, the audience comes to understand the under workings of Washington. Since it’s a Netflix Original it only comes out in seasons, which makes it perfect for binge-watching. The second season airs February 14th.
Also– Is it weird to be 18 and have a crush on Kevin Spacey? Oh well.

The West Wing
This show is so politically accurate; I used to watch episodes to better understand content from my high school AP Government class. From the process of nominating Supreme Court Justices to running in long shot primaries, this show covers pretty much everything in politics. More than once I have used West Wing knowledge in my Business Law class. The best part is that the show, in its entirety, is on Netflix.

Scandal
Appropriately named, this show deals with the scandalous side of Washington. Olivia Pope’s clients only come to her when their reputation is at stake. Besides another beautiful cast of characters, this show really highlights the corruption of Washington. That being said, the actual education of this show is limited since it’s not as realistic. However, writer Shonda Rhimes is a GENIUS when it comes to plot lines, so she’ll definitely keep you hooked and convinced it is true. It’s currently in its third season on ABC.
