Want a Job in the Arts? Search Hire Culture!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

It was an afternoon in the beginning of March when I decided to make my first trip to the Career Center on campus. I was looking for internships that were still accepting applications in the field that I wanted to work in (Museum Studies/Arts Administration). I wasn’t sure if they would have any resources that I hadn’t already found on the Internet, but I was desperate and needed new ideas. Little did I know that the Career Center staff would introduce me to a website that I will surely be frequenting over the next several years.

Hire Culture is a website created by the Massachusetts Cultural Council. This job and internship database is a searchable job hunt solely for Massachusetts and it caters to those who are interested in the arts and culture fields. All you need to do is put in your field of study, area you wish to be employed, and employment status (part-time, full time, intern, etc.). In their “About Us” section of the website, they say they were created “primarily for the benefit of nonprofit arts, science, and humanities organizations in Massachusetts.”

I was astounded by how many internship listings are put up daily from organizations I never would have thought to look at otherwise. Organizations like Broadway in Boston, Boston Ballet, and Boston Center for the Arts are listings posted on the first search page.  I feel like my world has opened up to so many possibilities. I’m not sure if I will receive one of the internships I have found with this website, but regardless I’m thankful I came across the site! Without the Career Center’s help, I would never have found this website, so never underestimate what they can do for us here at Boston College!

Happy Internship/Job Hunting!!
