Wait…You’re Going on a Date?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

It seems like the word “date” at BC is surrounded by a cloud of fear. Basically, if you go on a date at BC, you’re probably getting married. Right? Wrong. Trust me, I am just as scared of that word as the next BC student, but why is that the case? Since when did a date become a serious commitment? It’s supposed to be a fun way to get to know someone.

So instead of being scared/bored of the classic dinner and a movie filled with crazy expectations, try a different approach and do something fun that’s a little more relaxed.

Ice skating at Frog Pond—okay so this one is pretty date-y, but it gets you into the city and gives you plenty of opportunities to “huddle for warmth,” share a hot chocolate, and get to know each other while doing a fun and inexpensive activity.

Happy Hour—This only applies to 21+, but some restaurants in Boston have great happy hours, and it provides a fun and relaxed environment for a date! A personal favorite is the happy hour at The Melting Pot. 50% off the cheese and chocolate fondue? My own personal heaven on earth.

Bowling—So maybe this is lame. But maybe it isn’t. Sure, bowling might remind you of the middle school way to hang out with boys, but who are we kidding?! If it worked then, it probably still works now. Accept the challenge of making those weird shoes look cute and work it!

Go on a run—this might not be first date material, but after you’ve gotten to know someone a little bit, going on a run is an awesome way to get to know him even more. I realize not everyone thinks running is as exciting as I do, but my favorite part is talking to my running partner about anything and everything. It’s the perfect environment for a date!

Going on a date isn’t a serious matter, so have fun with it! Pick something that you don’t always get to do and enjoy sharing that experience with someone you’re interested in.
