Do you ever find yourself dreaming of a vacation to the Swiss Alps? Do you crave milky Swiss chocolate? Do you love outdoor activities like hiking and skiing? If so, then it is time for you to check out this week’s travel guide highlighting the beautiful city of Lucerne, Switzerland. Situated among snowcapped mountains along the strikingly blue Lake Lucerne, the city is compact and charming. The medieval architecture is stunning against the backdrop of natural beauty. Here are a few things to be sure not to miss on your trip to Lucerne:

Climb and Explore Mt. Pilatus

With hikes ranging from easy to alpine, there is something for everyone on this mountain. Climb up to the Fräkmüntegg station for activities like a ropes course and a toboggan ride. Then purchase a round trip gondola ticket up to the summit for amazing views of the Swiss Alps and Lake Lucerne.

Eat Every Brand of Swiss Chocolate

Nothing beats the smooth, delicious milk chocolate that the Swiss make. From Lindt and Toblerone to Cailler and Frey, there are countless yummy Swiss chocolate brands to try. Head to Bachmann to find them all and enjoy some yummy ice cream while you are at it!

Enjoy the Beach Along the Lake

After all this hiking and chocolate eating, you may find yourself needing to relax. Take a walk along the lake to find a lovely park and a sandy beach and enjoy the beauty that surrounds you.

Explore the Historical Kapellbrücke

When you first arrive in Lucerne, you will undoubtedly discover the old wooden footbridge running diagonally across the Reuss. This covered bridge is called the Kapellbrücke, or the Chapel Bridge. Be sure to look up as you walk through it as the ceiling is decorated with 17th century art.

Stroll Through Old Town

Walk through the historic Old Town of Lucerne and stop to take water from any of the open, running fountains. These fountains supply water straight from the mountain and provide a very refreshing drink.

Dinner and a Show at Stadtkeller Restaurant

If you are looking to watch a traditional Swiss Folklore show while you eat some fondue, then this is the spot for you. This cozy restaurant dishes out hearty, Swiss meals all while putting on an interactive show.

Walk Along Mussegg Wall and Towers

The Museggmauer or City Wall was built in 1386 and remains almost entirely intact. Walk along the wall and climb up into the towers for breathtaking views of the city.

Head to Lucerne to enjoy all of the beauty of the Swiss Alps in a quaint city with many historical landmarks. I hope you enjoy it!
