Summer Movie Releases

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

I love summer for countless reasons, but one reason is because I can do something I never have time to do during the school year: go to the movies!  Here is a list of movies being released this summer that we at Her Campus BC are looking forward to the most.

Dark Shadows – May 11
I thought this would be yet another vampire movie, but the trailer was unexpectedly different and hilarious.  Johnny Depp stars as vampire Barnabas Collins in Tim Burton’s adaptation of the 1960s gothic soap opera of the same name.  Also starring Helena Bonham Carter (my girl), Michelle Pfeiffer, and Chloe Moretz.

What to Expect When You’re Expecting – May 18
Named after the famous pregnancy handbook, this ensemble comedy follows five couples going through the childbirth process.  Starring Elizabeth Banks, Cameron Diaz, Brooklyn Decker, Anna Kendrick, and Jennifer Lopez.

Snow White and the Huntsman – June 1
Not to be confused with the other Snow White tale released earlier this year, Mirror Mirror, Snow White and the Huntsman is much more intense version of the classic story.  In this one, the huntsman who was ordered to kill Snow White instead trains her to fight back.  Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, and Charlize Theron star.

Rock of Ages – June 15
This adaptation of the Broadway musical doesn’t look like it will blow me away, but I might have to check it out just for the star-studded cast: Tom Cruise, Russell Brand, Alec Baldwin, Julianne Hough, Catherine Zeta-Jones, to name a few.

Brave – June 22
Even though Brave is a children’s film, I will absolutely be seeing it.  Pixar has never let me down.  Not to mention this flick is different from anything Pixar’s made before with a Brothers-Grimm-style setting and both a female heroine and director.  Emma Thompson, Kelly Macdonald, and Billy Connolly star.

The Amazing Spider Man – July 3
This film is not like the other Spider-Man movies of the famous franchise.  A prequel with new actors, it follows Peter Parker as he develops his super powers in high school after being bitten by a radioactive spider.  Real life couple Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield star.

The Dark Knight Rises – July 20
This may be the most highly anticipated movie of the summer.  The main cast returns (Christian Bale, Michael Caine, and Morgan Freeman), with new additions, Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Anne Hathaway.
