The Struggles of a Short Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

Don’t get me wrong. I will take any time for break that we have. I mean, why wouldn’t I? I get to sleep in my own bed, eat my mom’s home cooked meals, see my pet, and see my friends. But most importantly, I get to relax. And as a plus, they always seem to come at the most applicable times.

The longer the break, the longer we have to relax. But the longer the break, the more I procrastinate and do absolutely nothing. It seems that on longer breaks, like winter break, the beginning and end are most productive and the middle is just a bunch of time spent in bed watching Netflix.

However, this Easter break is pretty short and doesn’t really give us a lot of time to do much of anything, whether it is homework or actually nothing. But, on a positive note, some of my friends don’t even have off, so I will take the time that we have.

Flying home Wednesday night, at least, gave me an extra full day on Thursday. However, we have Thursday, Friday, and Saturday to do, most likely, what we want. Sunday, if you celebrate the holiday, will be used spending time with family and extended family telling you how much you’ve grown when you don’t even know who they are. And Monday, I can’t even as count a day at home. For me, I have an early morning flight, so I will be back on campus late morning, which brings me to my ultimate point.

The shorter the break, the more time I spend trying to adapt to the new life style. No matter the length of the break, the first few days are spent sleeping in until 1 pm and trying to get up from bed as little as possible. As you can see, this is a big dilemma. Considering the fact that this break is only 4 days (5 if you count Monday) and the fact that I have two tests the week we get back, I don’t get this leisure time of “nothing.” Immediately trying to start studying can actually take some time to begin. Whether I am at school or at home, I can never jump right into studying. I need to slowly pace myself into torture and confusion. At home, it just takes a little longer.

So, by the time I take out my books, open my notes, and find my favorite pen that always seems to end up at the bottom of my backpack, my mom’s already telling me to start packing my things because sooner or later, I will be going back to school.

I don’t know about you, but it always seems that as soon as I get adjusted to the hectic life at college or the leisure life at home, it is always time to switch to the other life style. But hey, any break is a break from Mac.
