Sperry Top-Siders: The Seaside Summer Essential

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

As we reach the end of April, we start to anticipate the end of the semester. And as the end of the semester passes, summer arrives. For many of us, summertime always signifies a time to relax, get some sun, enjoy the outdoors and head to the beach.

I, personally, would classify myself as a beach bum. If I could live at the beach, then I would, but I haven’t quite conquered making a sand castle big enough. Although I cannot live at the beach, I embrace the beachy look and typical Cape Cod style all summer long.

If you are someone who has spent your summers on the coastline of New England, then I am sure you are familiar with Sperry Top-Sider. If you have not spent your summers this way, then I am sure a few semesters at BC have exposed you to the super stylish and extremely comfortable brand of Sperry Top-Sider.

Regardless of where you spend your summers, if the seaside is involved then I highly recommend Sperry Top-Siders as the seaside essential. Here are a few reasons why:

1. Symbolic Seashore Shoes: When one thinks of Sperry, then one often thinks nautical. Sperry strikes the perfect balance with their nautical prints – not too nauseating or too much. They have both boat shoes and flip flops in classic nautical colors of red, white and blue as well as other shoes featuring colors like pink and green. Some of the cute designs popping up on their shoes this season are anchors, stripes, whale tails, sailboats and seashells. I love that I can take my favorite classic boat shoe, the Bluefish, and add a twist with some whale swimming along the navy exterior.

2. Durable and Slip-Proof: Whether on a boat, fishing on a dock or even just walking on a slippery sidewalk, Sperry Top-Siders protect you from slipping. They have been known for their slip-proof shoe since the 1930s and are the lead sponsor of the US Sailing Team.

3. Super Cute Swimwear: Yes it is true, Sperry does swimwear and they do it well. With fun patterns in stripes, polka dots and tropical prints, you are sure to get compliments when on the beach or at the lake. They also have flattering cover-ups to mix and match with the bathing suits. I have my eye on the Anchor Hanky Bikini and would love to pair it with the Searsucker shorts.

4. Stylish Shades: A sunny day in summer is incomplete without a pair of sunglasses. If you are looking for a new pair of shades, I recommend Sperry sunglasses. Available in various sizes, shapes and shades, you are sure to find a pair fit for you. My personal favorite is the Nantucket style featuring a fun pattern around the shade and the sides.

Whether you like a classic and comfortable style or a simple style this summer, Sperry Top-Sider has all the seaside essentials. They are becoming more than just a shoe brand, and this is seen through their growing apparel line, extensive accessories department (from belts and scarves to sunglasses and jewelry), and they even offer an option now that allows you to customize your shoes! Check out their website and you will be ready for the beach!
