It turns out not everyone at BC is a rival with that other school down the Green Line. In fact, a new group on campus has sparked a productive relationship with BU. This group of eight has realized that there is more to the BC/BU relationship than T-Storms (which I happen to adore) and âSucks to BUâ chants. And the best part? This group of eight is all about helping you.Â
Â
But how? With a new start-up company, www.KegFLY.com.
Â
Erik Kim, CSOM â13, Nicolas Fontaine, CSOM â13, and Kudzai Taziva, A&S â13, have teamed up as co-founders of BCâs new chapter of KegFLY. Though it is not a recognized club on campus, the boys, who lead a group of five interns, are aiming high. Their goal is for BC students to refer to KegFLY.com/BC before going out to check out the various deals available on other websites.
Â
So what is this KegFLY thing?
Â
âKegFLY is a collective buying site for college students specifically. Itâs similar to Groupon in the sense that we also give discounts,â said Kim. âKegFLY works to connect businesses around campus with the student body.”
Â
When KegFLY.com/BC officially launches in late February or early March (look out for a launch party at a nearby bar or club), students will be able to log onto the site and check out weekly deals of at least 50% off at their favorite places. Currently, the team has worked out deals with El Pelon and Crazy Doughâs, and have many more businesses on the horizon.Â
Â
This is where BU comes in. The students have used the schoolsâ close proximity to their advantage by teaming up with BU to brainstorm ideas and work with various companies in the area to save the Eagles and the Terriers a few bucks. Future ideas include deals at places like Upper Crust, New Hong Kong, Eagles Cuts and Nails, and Campus Tan, to name a few.
Â
It seems that Mark Zuckerberg has started a trend. Young entrepreneurs are popping up everywhere with creative start-ups, and the boys are excited to be a part of the revolution.Â
Â
âWith technology and the Internet, you donât need huge overhead, you just need an idea,â said Fontaine.Â
Â
And KegFLY is just that.
Â
âWhat KegFLY does is tap into the college lifestyle. What limits students is money,â said Kim. âSo what KegFLY does is take the college lifestyle and make it more affordable.â
Â
Taziva was eager to point out another great aspect of KegFLY. He explained how KegFLY will help students climb out of our dear BC bubble, noting that the deals will inspire students to venture off campus to the various restaurant and businesses that offer them.Â
Â
âIt will tap into student life in the sense that it will be a recognized name on campus. Students will say âletâs go on and see what KegFLY has,ââ said Taziva.Â
Â
The co-founders have looked into becoming a club, but have put it on the back burner because they recognize that it is a long and daunting process, especially in the midst of its birth at BC.  So how will the team advertise without having the ability to post those fabulous fliers all over the stairwell in OâNeill?Â
Â
Creativity.
The team threw their first event at El Pelon and Crazy Doughâs during finals week, offering free pizza and half-off quesadillas. They estimated that about 200-300 people were in and out of the restaurants, excited about the eventâs success and grateful for the generosity of El Pelon and Crazy Doughâs.Â

The group looks forward to having a team at Relay for Life. Intern Kristen Nervo is acting as team leader, and the group plans on having t-shirts and a table set up by at the track. Relay participants will be able to register for KegFLY.com as they log their laps around the track. The group has also tapped into âtraditionalâ methods, such as Facebook and Twitter.
