The Sleep Revolution

This is a sponsored feature. All opinions are 100% from Her Campus.

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

With finals season in full swing all of BC is noticeably dragging. All nighters and multiple cups of coffee are well-known around campus, while sleep and down time are non existent. This breeds an atmosphere of irritability and impatience. While this is especially noticeable during finals week, sleep deprivation is common throughout the entire year. BC students pride themselves on performing well academically, being incredibly involved, staying in shape, and having a packed social calendar. The unfortunate truth is that it is impossible to accomplish all of this without an adequate amount of sleep.

Arianna Huffington, co-founder and Editor-in-Chief of The Huffington Post, experienced this pressure to do it all in the professional world and felt as if she needed to not only keep up but push harder. After collapsing from exhaustion she decided to make a change in her life and place a higher value on sleep and self-care. It is Huffington’s belief that a person cannot be successful if they are not well rested. In order to spread this message, Huffington wrote The Sleep Revolution, published earlier this month. This shares a similar message of her previous bestseller, Thrive, where she redefined what it means to be successful in order to incorporate a person’s well being into the equation. The release of this book has sparked a national conversation that is leading many to evaluate the priorities that Americans hold.

Huffington realizes that is not only successful professionals that are experiencing burnout; college students across the country are constantly sacrificing sleep in order to maximize the amount of activities they are able to accomplish. Huffington and her team decided to embark on “The Huffington Post’s Sleep Revolution College Tour” where they are traveling to 50 colleges across the country to demonstrate to students just how important sleep is, and that it will actually enhance your success not take away from it.

In addition to these campus appearances, Arianna Huffington is sending sleep kits to various college organizations, and Her Campus BC is one of the lucky recipients! Along with the fantastic kits, we were also gifted a copy of The Sleep Revolution. We would like to give a huge thank you to Her Campus, Arianna Huffington, and her entire team for these wonderful kits and the fantastic book! We can all use this is an opportunity to evaluate the commitments that fill our lives and see how we can make sleep just as important.
